Wheels won't come off
hey everyone... i just got some 17's for my 93 accord, and i was really excited. but when i went to take the old wheels off, i found that they are stuck. One of the nuts on each rear wheel will not come off. I had a tire place check it out, and they said that my stubs(?) are bad. Now i have to get a mechanic to look at it. Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost?

we had this same problem...except it was on a 20 inch rims and on a Tahoe. Well, all i could say is it takes some skills to take them off.
I'd go to Tires Plus or some special tires place to get them off...either that or you could try ripping your whole suspension system off just to take off the rims. I work at Tires Plus and i believe switching rims doesn't cost that much, especially if you've got your own items. All you pay for really is labor. Good luck!
And yes your studs are bad. Reason why is because whoever tightend your wheels used the wrong amount of torque or didn't use a torque stick at all and put pure weight on those lug nuts. (We had to replace the rotors too if you're wondering)

this my sound really stupid.. but sometimes its as simple as kicking the tire as hard as you can.. Being the heat from the brakes can kinda cook the surface of the rim onto the hub. I have had this problem many times..
Atleast try beating it off before you go and take it to a shop.
Thus studs are a better possible answer..

well, i was out fiddling with the tires right now, and i was trying to losen them when crack! off came the nut along with the metal piece that the nut was supposed to hold to. now what? i think i have to take it to the mechanic. they would probably have to break it off and put new studs in anyways right?
I hope this doesn't costs too much.

Check ur rotor to see if it's still good... then jus go buy some studs and put them in urself, studs are cheap... less than $5... my bro's camry's studs broke off from the same thing, we jus replaced the rotor and stud...

ok, i guess i'll try and order some studs from the dealers tomorrow. as soon as i can get them, i will try to replace them ont he rotors. Only thing is, do i need to break off the ones that are bad (ie. the ones that are stuck and i cannot remove)?
will that damage the rotor? also, i think my rear brakes for the accord are drums. does this mean anything? are they drums or discs? i don't even know, i can't take off my wheels.

Umm, I'm about to replace all my studs with some longer ones. I'm taking all four hubs off the car and pressing the old ones out and the new ones in. Are you planning on trying this with the hubs still on the car? Seems like that would be harder than just pulling the hubs of and pressing them out. Not sure, but can you even change your studs with the hubs on the car, do you have enough room?
I had that happen to me on my 91 accord. i just kept tightening it till it snapped off.
A new stud at a honda only cost 42 cent & a new lug nut is $1.12 , & 5 min to put on.
