Default read this if you've installed your head unit

I installed my alpine, but it sits 1/2 inch deep in the dash, what did y'all use as a "frame" around the stereo to fit inside the DIN so it will sit out like it's supposed to instead of sinking cause it's too small.

I use the alpine provided frame.

I have that, but it still sinks in, which it isn't supposed to do.. I think car audio places use some sort of plastic fitting

You can order an install kit from somewhere like Crutchfield. I didn't have the problem you described. Mine fit right in perfectly with no installation kit.

What car do you have? Did you use the pop out teeth on the frame to wedge it in there?

97 civic.. the head unit sits there nicely with a very very small gap around the plastic trim of the head unit, but something needs to go behind it to push the head unit out farther

I am not getting what is wrong If the hu is too far in, you can adjust the frame to get it further out. Do you have pictures?

Do EK Civics need mounting kits? If you've installed the metal sleave/basket/frame thing that the HU slides into, it shouldn't go any further back than that. Maybe you have the wrong sleave, or you should use a backstrap.

I know in my 2000 DX I didn't need a kit. The 97s had a different bezel though, so they might. You don't need a kit if you mount it in the DIN slot behind the cup holder though.

Post up some pictures of it if you can. I just installed an Alpine HU in my Integra and it's pretty much flush with the rest of the dash. I think it looks better, but it may be a different story with Civics.
