Default oil pressure drops after 2500 miles... why??

DOHC ZC motor....
I do an oil change every 3000 miles, however by the time i drive about 2200 miles i check my oil pressure and it drops about 35 psi (70-80 @ 3000 rpm when oil is new).. by the time is at 2200 miles from the oil change the pressure is at about 35 psi.. however at idle the pressure is about 12 psi, just like the helms book says..
I only have driven the engine for about 25k miles since i put in new piston rings, valve seals, and cam seals, and oil pump...
i understand that the pressure should drop after a couple of thousand miles, but i dont think it should be that much...
Also, when i check the oil level, the fluid is barely touching the bottom of the dip stick so i have to add a little less than a quart of oil...
I check the exhaust for smoke, but no smoke....
HELP....

Possibly an external leak. Clean the engine real good, drive it about 50 miles and check for any leaks. If none then drive it a few hundred more and check again. If theres no smoke its most likely a gasket.
