Default Tall Drivers With Big Feet and Their Ability to Drive the R

I know I'm not the only one here who finds it difficult to heel-toe downshift. 6'2" with a medium/large build and up to a size 15 shoe in Nikes. My knees hit the steering wheel constantly. When trying to adjust the seat properly, say for auto-x or track where my wrists can rest on the steering wheel with my shoulders completely against the seat, my knees are practically going through the dash.

My main question is, what items can be purchased that will give me a bit more room?

I know I've read that the JDM steering wheel is smaller than the USDM one. That is a start. Any other suggestions. Seat rails that would lower stock seat? Wedge? Vision?

TIA

yup, jdm non srs steering wheel will solve that problem. My knee would touch before (i'm 6ft), but with the jdm wheel, i have a good 2-3 inch clearance when my foot is on the brake.

I'm about 6'4" and have some of the same problems. I choose to buy those cheap ricer pedals you find in any cheap "performance" catalog that stick out more towards the brake pedal. Then, rather then clipping them to the pedals as directed, I actually drilled them into the pedals after removing the stock pedal covers, thus leaving the gas and brake pedals very close together. Rather than actually heel-toeing, I just lean my foot over to the right while on the brake and blip the throttle. It works quite well w/ practice.

Through my research, and posts here on honda-tech, I have determined that we are screwed.

Buy lower rails, and get an aftermarket steering wheel is the only solution I could come up with. Unfortunately for me, I have the wedge brackets (connected to some SRDs), but I want to retain my airbag, so I have exhausted my options.

I even made a post about it:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=390740

I've learned to just live with it. Its just something I can blame my low auto-x times on

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm listening.

I kinda figured I was fighting a battle I could not win.

I've heard that the JDM SRS is still smaller than the USDM wheel. I would like to look into this wheel as I'd like to retain an airbag.

Also, I've heard that the Vision rails/sliders really lower the seat, is this true? This would probably be the best solution for getting my knees to stop hitting the steering wheel.

OMG i was gonna make a thread just like this one. You think you have problems, i'm 6'6 and size 16 shoe. I can't where boots/dress shoes/sandals and drive a standard car at the sametime...

I was suggested to get a jdm srs wheel since it has a airbag over this momo wheel I was looking at by itr-j. I've also considered getting the seat moved back a little bit.

Vision sliders/rails? Anymore info on these?

Does anyone over 6 feet have to turn sideways to get out of their Integra (lowered) to get out of the car?

Yep

4-1-1: I've heard quite a few people talking about the vision rails/sliders. They said it gave them a good amount of room by really lowering the seat. The only problem they mentioned was it being difficult to look for traffic when switching lanes, which I dont think should be a problem for people taller than 6'.

My question now is whether or not Vision rails/sliders can be mounted on the stock seats.

Ok, based on this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=324659 , I've established so far that the Super Low slider was designed for RHD vehicles. This leaves the One-Touch Slider as the next best contender, but the thread implys that it can only be used on the JDM Recaros. Will they work for the stock seats?

Thats a no-go for me. I think about 6' of my 6'2" length is in my legs . I wanna be closer to the wheel!

Where would we see increased interior space if we got the JDM SRS wheel? Does it move it closer to the driver? Does it somehow give more knee room?

God save me if i ever get into an accident... my knees would surely be crushed

Another vouch for the JDM steering wheel. Im 6'2" and found that I had to modify my heel and toe technique to make do. Much easier with the smaller diameter wheel.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the SRS one correct? I ask because earlier someone made a comment about the NON SRS wheel...

I'm 6'4, shoe size 13 and i drive my buddies R with no problem at all. I have always used the roll-your-toe-over technique for bliping the throttle on downshifts. I do the same thing in my car (89 prelude) and my parents 99 accord 5 speed. The type-R is alot bigger then my prelude as far as headroom goes but the ludes seats go back waaay far and.... ok now I'm rambling

anyway, I thought that the shorter fellows had the problems heal toeing, not the tall ones.

Does anyone know the measurements for the USDM, JDM SRS, and JDM non-srs?

I am the exact same way! 6'3" size 14 feet. I thought I was the only one with this curse. I have to turn sideways to get out of my car. I have to turn my right leg to the left at a 45 degree angle at my knee, and again the opposite direction at my ankle to get on the gas without running into the wheel.

Why I love these tiny Japanese cars I will never know, but it isn't like the Mustang has any leg room. Hell, most cars in general don't. After sitting in a whole bunch of cars the only one that fits me comfortabley (and is Honda) is the 2003 Civic EX. I DON'T want one of them.

I love my Integra, so I suffer. My Eclipse was even worst. My leg would hurt for hours after a long journey.

The Momo Apache style steering wheels would be good, but there is no way my wife would let me get rid of the air bag.

get a wheel spacer, it helps, the steering wheel closer to u and u have more space for your bit feet so u won't be hitting steering wheel anymore.

can't you yank the front seat and drive from the rear seat?

seriously, can't the rails on the floor be moved back a few inches so the front seat rests against the rear seat when it's all the way back? or does it already? I donno, I want an R but I tried sitting in one and didn't fit: 6'5" size 13.......
