4032 or low silicon alloy 2618

What is the difference?
Is one better than the other?
advantage/disadvantage of each

considering Arias pistons in stock bore B20 with B16 head 12:1 compression

 

im gonna have to decide which piston material to get soon....4032 has silicon in it.So the piston will expand less from heat and also has better low friction properties.this leads to being able to run tighter tolerances.the 2618 is a low or no silicon aluminum forging,so it expands more from heat,bigger piston to wall clearances with most pistons.But 2618 is much stronger than 4032.Because of the silicon in 4032,it makes the forging more brittle.Most cases its recommended to go with 4032 for allmotor set-ups and 2618 with turbo or nitrous.4032 can be used with nitrous or turbo but your tuning has to be dead nuts to prevent detonation.

 

i have the 2618 12-1cr arias's for my car and the guys at arias said that they will slap quite a bit until the car is warm, doesnt bother me because of the strength but some may not like it, plus its got a little intimidation factor
