Default very quick distributor question

when i bought my SiR new, the position of the distributor was dead center and this indicate that the timing was stock spec of 16degrees.

when my engine blew up, i had my mechanic rebuilt it. when i got my car back, the distributor is no longer in the dead center position instead it's on the advance timing position. i asked the mechanic about it but he said he didn't touch timing and i doubt it. maybe he forgot.

my question is, is there any chance that my ignition timing is at stock spec of 16 degrees even if my distributor is not center like before. other SiR i've looked at and other hondas like crv which haven't touch timing was also in the center position.

any info will be appreciated.

This is a strange one. I think your mechanic probably "touched" it somehow and maybe its not timed properly or maybe it is.

Surely you have a friend that has a timing light...just check it and see whats up.

I just did a swap in my eg and my old motor was like dead center but my new motor is slighty off dead center. Dead center on your distributor location doesn't actually mean anything but normally its close.

the problem is i don't know anyone who has a timing light and i'll be going to my mechanic tomorrow for timing check and valve adjustment. i'm asking this so i'll know if my mechanic will say anything BS about it tomorrow. sort of to be prepare.

any other ideas?
