do you have the metal B&M kit? if so, the shifter rattle would be vibration transferred from the bushing. if you ahve the standard energy type bushing, then you might have something loose. good luck.
Honestly, I do not know what brand bushings I have. It came with the car and it was rattling when I bought it. I just got off my lazy butt to do something about it. At first I thought it was perhaps the bushing on the transmission side. But that was all replaced and retightened when I got my new transmission. I still have factory shift rod. Also, would engine bushings amplify the vibration by much?

len, I have the same problem you do, and my shifter rattles like a **** when decelerating and cruising.. I've pin pointed the problem to that bushing at the end of the shift rod (its the B&M one that i have)... lol, as a matter of fact I was about to call YOU tomorow to get one.. lol
After I installed my Energy Suspension bushings there has been a rattle in my shifter at high rpms~7500-8000. ES bushings are red, BTW.
I recently changed the back shifter bushing (rectangular looking one) back to the stock rubber bushing. It has helped, but not all of the buzzing is gone. I'll most likelywill try changing the front round one back to stock to see if this eliminates the rattle completely. Prior to me installing the ES bushings, the stock stuff did not let the shifter rattle.
The rattling is a common problem with people who have changed to harder bushings. I've heard that Mugen shifter bushings do not rattle and I may be trying that if I can't stand the stock stuff once I get that in.
HTH

eh, could be the shifter, okay

I'm definitely going to take the remainder of that off tomorrow to see if it helps.

Why change the bushings at all? Just because its a $12 mod doesn't mean its effective. I don't see how "more vibration" translates into more performance...

The vibration is a side effect. When I had my stock shifter, I noticed improved feel, and more precise shifts. Definatly worth every penny.

This may be so...but given that the itr shifts are already razor sharp, i wouldn't trade a little more feel for annoying buzzes and vibrations IMO.
