Default Question for guys that have Hondata and/or Kenji ECU experience...

I'm currently running a near-stock set up on my R. It consists of a K&N E-2427 on stock elbow (no airbox w/support bracket), custom 2.25 test pipe w/o2 bung, ITR b-pipe, 5Zigen miracle fireball axle-back, 18 deg ignition timing, and a strict diet of Sunoco 94. ITR flywheel (resurfaced once) and CM stage IV. I haven't dynoe'd my car but it feels very strong. (low 170's??)

Strong to the point that I'm totally confident that I'll break high 13's @ 98-99ish on drag radials at E-town next weekend. G-tech pro times on street tires have been 13.889 @ 98 mph, 13.888 @ 98 mph, and, 13.776 @ 99 mph respectively.

My question is wether I can expect 7-10 whp from switching over to an OBD-1 Type R program, or an OBD-1 Hondata program. Nothing radical, maybe a Kenji P28 or mild Hondata ECU/& IM gasket. I dont plan on changing cams (maybe CTR intake), but I do plan on swapping in Eagle rods and 10.6 to 1 Rollerwaves and shooting a 100 shot wet.

I want a car that runs strong on motor, yet when I want to back up the timing and shoot the sh*t out of it to be able to also. I'm fishing for suggestions folks...

you have a 00 R? why put in a ctr intake cam? 00-01 R's cams are the same as the ctr's. as far as 7-10 with an obd1 ecu? hard to say, if you got a hondata and went to a good tuner then yea, very very possible. but i have no experience using pre-programmed ECU's so i couldnt say.

I was under the impression that only '01 had the CTR cam.

i had a chipped p28 from kenji , i tried to run it on my jdm typr motor for some reason it had a sparatic idle.. it would bog the motor down about 2300 rpm's , i dont know if it works different with a us spec typr??? the p28 works though , we put it on a 97 civic hatch with a built b16 and that baby pulls well.. the guy loves it, i wish it would of worked for me... good luck on the tunning..

Friend of mine has a Kenji ecu in his 99 Si w/ GS-R motor. Cars pulls very nice all the way to 9K. When I get a ecu, it'll be one of Kenji's!

I would get an aftermarket header first. With hondata or kenji, remember you are doing a different ecu program away from stock. I doubt since your car has most of the stock in/ex parts that your fuel tables will need to be optimized.

Nowyou can always squeze a lil more power out of a stock ITR with hondata, but you would get more gains with doing bolt ons.

maybe get an icebox and jdm 4-1 header. you can get both for under 500 bucks. then buy the hondata which is another 300 (list) for the base s200

00/01 itr comes with ctr cam for intake

Is kenji's ecu for the type r optimized for i/h/e? Anyone here with an R using one and have dyno plots or could give me a mini review on it?

Just search for "Kenji" under archived ITR threads ans there should be plenty.

I'll probably do a DC JDM in the near future but I plan on leaving my intake the way it is. I actually had an AEM CAI for 2+ years and now I love my current setup.

Get Hondata Stage 3 - that way you get lauch control as well. Seems like you are looking for a drag setup - with the NOS - you want to have excellent control of the ignition timing.

I just recently put Kenji's P28 in my R, and mid range is ******* awsome. And when Vtec engages it pulls REAL hard. Definatley worth it. I would change your header 1 st then get the ECU.

I just installed the chip this Saturday and am totally impressed!!!!! Mid range does rock! I actually found myself cruising till around 4000 rpm, then flooring it till vtec kicked in just to feel the midrange gain..........I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Kenji = da man!

Jason - who can't wait for the fd and flywheel instalation this weekend!

sparatic idle? That's wierd for your setup. I have the same setup as you basically, my idle is fine.

Anyways, I have two kenji ecu chips now. I switched his custom "race" chip out for another chip which runs closer to the stock ITR specs (because I don't feel good about running rich all the time), and I definetely felt a power decrease. Vtec doesn't pull near as hard.

Anyways, I would definetely go hondata route if you're going to put that goofy gas into your cylinders. It just seems right..
