Default Costs involved with building a hybrid civic?

I'm thinking about building a hybrid civic to race on the weekends. I was thinking a 92 civic hatchback, with a integra gsr engine.

Can anyone give me ruff ideas on how much you've spent building your hybrid?

Too much! HAHA
seriously though. I have spent at least 10K on it. If you include the cost of the motor which I bought from the insurance company when I wrecked, suspension, power mods, labor, tuning and the likes. That's just on this motor too. Don't ask about what I spent on the two prior motors.

If you can do the swap yourslf though and piece together a motor, you'll asve a bundle.

Good luck.

Base car -- 88 CRX HF -- $500 (blown motor, but in over all good condition)
Wheels/tires -- old style mirage steels (fairly light, and were a good price) with 195/60/14s -- $300
Engine/tranny all stuff for swap -- 91 B18A and all parts -- $1600
Placeracing mounts -- $425
misc stuff, oils, plugs, hoses, ect -- $100

swapped USDM S1 for JDM S1 -- $75

About $3200 for one h*** of a sleeper

rota c8's (15x6.5)-$400
kumho ecsta supra (195 50/15)-$240
kyb agx's-$250
gc coilovers-~$300

so about $1200 for basic suspension if you buy it all new at good prices. I'm looking for used gc's, so i hope to spend $1100 before putting anything into going or stopping faster.
Then comes upgraded brake system-hopefully ~$1000, then an engine/tranny, etc which i'm starting off estimating $3000 for a "starter" setup. So roughly $6-7k should be a good estimate for a budget, all around setup. Oh yeah, you'll need the car, figure $2-3k for a high mileage/good body civic, depending on where you live. So $8-10k should take you from no car to a pretty decent hybrid setup. this figure could be low or high depending on how fancy you want to get, but it's a good estimate for a reasonable, quality car that'll go, stop and turn quite well.

You will spend easly more then twice that doing the swap yourself. Many little things come up that you have to have. Make sure your Visa is ready.

I found a great deal, so my hybrid prolly cost me in the neighborhood of $3,500 for the works........

Good Luck.

let's see, car 3000 91 civic si, 1050.00 plus 150 shipping for the engine and YS1 tranny, ecu was 150 for a PR3, axles I had made for this swap 250.00, mount kit 500.00 shipped for HCP mounts and shift linkage, New radiator hoses 25.00, I went ahead and ordered CTR cams for 600.00 and an ITR intake manifold for alitte less then 260.00 shipped from jdmhondaparts.com...........You will get the engine in and then you will start thinking this is a base model in Japan, now you can start building.............

$4,000 for a 92 Civic SI with 170,000 miles (lets just say it needed a new engine anyway)
$3,500 for a 97 GSR with less than 10,000 miles (verified).
$900 for a Quaife diff.
$500 for the exhaust
about $500 for miscelaneous parts.
At least $1,500 in the suspension.

Gustimate around $11,000 but thats probably a little on the low side and i'm nowhere near done yet.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of hybrids At least the car runs great.

12,500: 2000 Civic Hatch
3250 : GSR motor (1,000 miles)
100 : Extra Gaskets
130 : Mounts
185 : Intake
185 : Exhaust Canister
375 : ACT Clutch
245 : Kenjis Harness Adaptor
225 : Install
175 : Exhaust piping, welded
250 : Wheels
310 : Cheesy Skunk2s installed
150 : Various interior crap
250 : Civic Si Gauge cluster
450 : Sound "System"
75 : Civic Si lip

I don't feel like adding it up...I'll get sick. The sad part, the motor's not even in my car yet.

94 civic coupe, bought last year @ 12k

95 gsr motor/00 R tranny
tanabe exhaust
aem cai
dinan chipped ecu
us ITR exhaust manifold
fuel pump/regulator
type R 5 lug conversion
eibach pro-kit/tokico illumina

that is all i can think of now, of course now its different. and you have to take into consideration of if u are doing it yourself or have a shop do it. you can figure 35% more over total cost of parts if u have a shop do all the labor. good luck.

its expensive to build one.. but worth it in my opinion..

get a 92 up CX.. $3000-5000 depending on condition..

$5K for 97+ JDM ITR motor, complete..

$350 for clutch, while you at it, so you dont have to change later..

$250 for jumper...

$300 to install unless you can do it yourself..

$250 for some ground control coilvers..

$300 custom exhaust w/straight pipe

$900 roat c8's with some decent tires..

Basically this set up will give you high 13's on street tires and mid to low 13's possibly high 12's if gutted (take everything inside and run fiberglass doors) on slicks since you will have a clutch in there..

ahhh i love hybrids.. should have never sold mine.. but i was forced to DAMN IT!

I know its not a civic but you don't wana know what it costs to build my B20/Vtec. I did however find a 93 hatchback with a junkyard motor in it, crappy springs, and extremely bad paint. I'm thinking that i should ditch the 91 integra LS in favor of a hybrid... mmmm... can you say 12's or 13's?? None the less The special machining required is expensive plus pistons, rods, rings, head bolts, rod bolts, lubes, gaskets, fuel injectors, pump, regulator, ecu, block, head, oil line, gauges, motor mounts (ES), JDM 4-1, test pipe, head gasket. Luckily I can part old crap off my b18a like the power steering and other stuff since the heads were both '91 all the vacume hoses literally plug in. The list is soo much longer, im tired of typing tho. I guess i have it a little easier than a civic hybrid.

My question is what do you do with all the vacume hoses for a b18C or similar in a 93 hatch, like stuff for evap and map etc. etc. is that all there? Also what's required with the axles to bolt up, do the integra axles just 'bolt up'?

I'm thinking about building up a totally stock '91 CRX DX which I have first dibs on next spring for short money. It would be mostly a beater car though, but is in excellent shape. Here's some numbers I came up with:

$200 SIR cluster
$250 wiring harness DX to SIR conversion
$450 motor mounts
$1350 for B16a w/ tranny, ecu, axles
$200 miscellaneous crap and maintainence parts
$200 exhaust system
$200 for the unexpected.

$500 for some sort of brake upgrade,
$500 for decent springs and shocks
$0 for a set of '95 GSR wheels with tires

$2850 for the motor and $1000 to keep the chassis in balance with the car's additional power. That's $3650 plus the cost of the car would be between under 5.

Damn, I love Hybrids.
