shifter sticking?!
as stated in th e title, im having trouble with my shifter sticking. i parked it in gear and it didnt want to come out of gear when i tried to take it out to start it. the clutch also released funny a couple of times like it was sticking/hangin up on something. the clutch and cable are fairly new(9000 mi) and the trans is the stock 4 speed with 165,000 + on it.
any ideas?

I dont have any ideas on how to fix, but on my car it sometimes won't go into first when it has been in neutral for 5 minutes, and I almost ALWAYS have trouble going into reverse. Not to hijack the thread, but anyone else have these problems ?
i have that reverse trouble. i just go to 4th, then reverse and it goes in nice. otherwise i have to sit on the clutch for a few seconds, then try to stick it in reverse and hope it doesnt grind.
SOLOef, you depressed the clutch when you tried to pull it out of gear, even if it was not running, right? Other than that, I dunno.
SlowmanEF, the problem getting into reverse is that the dog teeth don't always necessarily line up. What I usually do is just hold the clutch in, and release the brake so I can roll a little if you are on a small hill so the teeth align themselves while you apply pressure in the reverse shifter direction.
Also, you can have the car in neutral, with it idling and push the clutch in and put it in reverse. If you don't wait too long, the shaft should still be spinning and the dogs should still be moving, so they will slip right in. Don't to it too quick, though....beware, it could grind. After a few times, you will figure out what works best for you. Reverse has no synchronizers...I don't know what your problem getting into first is, but I guess I would try the same methods as getting into reverse.

yup. to get it out of gear i have to start the car and move it a few inches in whatever gear its stuck in. im thinking bum linkage or linkage bushing.
