Default 1^3 or 1.25^3 box?

i have 1 12" alpine type r with alpine's mrd m300 amp. its already in a box but i dont' know how big it is. i want to build a new one because the box that i have now has the sub sitting to one side and room for the amp to mount right beside it and it feels like it is hitting one sidded. which box would be better for good sq but can still get kinda loud?tia

You might want to have a play round with this program: http://www.linearteam.dk/defau...inisd and see what you come up with.

I don't get it???? Does it sound like the bass is only coming from one side of the car?

yeah man kinda. i know that it sounds one sided because the sub is sitting on the left side of the car facing into the cabin. but when i turn up the bass and the volume on my hu it sounds like it is slapping or bottoming out on that side. i didn't know if it was because the sub is sitting to the left and not center in the box.

I would not go with anything bigger than 1.0 cu. ft. Alpine recommends 0.7-1.0.

I just built a box for my 12" Type R this weekend. Went with .75 cu. ft. (square box) and it sounds great. Hits deep and very tight.

It's position in the box has nothing to do with a slapping sound. Make sure that the box is airtight. I'd bet that there is a leak in the gasket between the sub and the box. If that checks out, then check for tinsel slap. This is when the wires running from the voice coil to the power terminals "slap" against the cone at high excursion levels.

thanks man. i feel like it is probably an air leak because this box was a freebie from a friend. i don't think that it is tinsel slap because the mrd m300 doesn't push it really hard but it does sound good when it isn't "slapping." so everyone agrees that 1^3 should be about right for my sub? thanks for the help.
