2-3 Gear Grinding - I think synchros are done - advice needed!
Hey guys,
I'm grinding between 2-3 at high RPMs (in VTEC). My question is, how expensive is it to rebuild a synchro set for just those gears?
Thanks again in advance!

replace tranny fluid and then go easy, might get some more miles out of your synchros.....I think they are $300+.
Find out the part numbers and try http://acuraautomotiveparts.org
And it all depends on who you have to fix it. Dealer is going to rip you a new ******* to fix it.

I am having the same problem.
One idea i had was to go to GM Synchromesh fluid instead of Honda MTF. I have hearfd this coudl work and is an easy solution compared to tranny rebuild.
I think there are 3 sets of Synchros in the tranny and they are each around $200+. I will start saving and do them all plus a few bearings at the same time if needed.

if you don't mind doing the work yourself, it's pretty easy. otherwise, figure 300-400? for someone to do the work, maybe a little more
call Len at Baranco Acura and get the parts and you can do it yourself or have some one to do it. but you'll be spending money.

make sure you get 3-4 gear sleeve set, it is part number 9 and get a new third gear. The sleeve set comes with the 3-4 gear sleeve and 3-4 gear syncros which is very important becuase I had this problem before I just replaced the syncros in my car and I still had the 2-3 gear grind so make sure you do it Right!
hahahaha just went to Cottman Transmission today. I have the same problem. Heres what they quoted me for labor: RCI = $158.63 and Build = $248.29 So that is $406.92 for labor + Parts and Fluid. He said depending on how bad and what I want replaced (just that one syncro, or the whole set) it should be less than $1000. And $1000 is what I budgeted as whitnessed from past experiences with friends. The shop manager told me its really easy, just have to determine what parts need replacing.
