I'm looking to buy a bike soon, and there's a 93 F2 I'm interested in. I'm wondering, besides the bike, sales tax, the MSF course and gear, what else should I expect to pay for? No flames please, I'm new to the bike world.
INSURANCE! (regardless of what people may tell you, keep in mind this)... Insurance is not necessarily for you... Insurance also protects the people you may hit in the event you are in an accident and you are at fault. Nothing adds more to the pain when some moron plows into you, takes his helmet off, dazed, and says, "I don't have insurance, you guys are ok, right?".
Other than that, I'd check on your fluids, tires, etc.. If you know a good mechanic, I'd take it to them and have them take a look at it. I know when I bought my bike, everything had been recently serviced, but I still had everything looked over and all the fluids replaced.

Depending on the condition of the bike, you may wish to buy tires (if they're old or worn) and do a tune up. Tires can range from between $150 for the pair to $400 depending on the type you get, where you buy them, and how they're installed. Personally, when I've bought a used bike I change the oil & filter, plugs, check the air filter, oil the chain, flush the brake system, check the coolant levels, and perform the normal "startup" test before I took it anywhere but home. Figure that'll cost you around $35 if you do it yourself (which I suggest if you're mildly mechanically inclined). I also suggest buying a factory service manual if you meet the previous condition. That can run from $40-70.
Definitely get an insurance quote first. . there are many places to check like Progressive and Bike-Line. If you can get your bike and car together with your insurance carrier, it'll help. I could have gone liability only, but opted for full coverage because you never know.
A '93 shouldn't be TOO bad, but I don't know you're background.

0 tickets, 1 accident (at fault
damn old people in their town cars, braking on freeways for no reason) I'm 19, gonna be 20 in July. If it costs too much for me to insure it on my own, then it's going to be my dad's bike

I pay 500 for liability on a 91 CBR.
Friend of mine has a brand new F4i and pays 380 FULL COVERAGE!! I WAS THERE I know hes not lying, and keep this in mind this is from the state with the highest insurance costs in the nation.
BTW: His insurance was State Farm which does not give out any policies anymore, they are trying to leave NJ.

Insurance is almost impossible to recommend to someone because different companies quote different prices depending on how much they have had to pay out in a particular area.
I'm currently paying for two bikes (one a 650 and one a 1,000) for full coverage and paying less than 550 a year. Of course age comes into play here but still, if I were to cross the river and try to get the same coverage I would be paying more over in KY.
