Popping sound while braking
I ran into a problem today at todays autox in NJ.
Everytime I brake HARD I hear one loud pop noise come from the rear of the car. It doesn't affect braking, but it is a little disturbing. When I brake softly like in street driving, there is no noise. I thought there was something banging around in my car, but everything loose was removed during the autox.
Any ideas of what to check?
Spectators could hear the same noise, but they said it was more of a metallic ping?
Not sure if anyone on this board was there at the Camden autox, but maybe you could describe the sound you heard from my car.

I'm wondering if this is the same metal ping noise quite a few others have suffered from. It comes from the rear and is heard in your situation as well as while going over a bump/dip in the road.
Some people suggested that it could be a heatshield and or the hatch itself.
I'm interested to know whats causing this problem.
