for a used bike you probably want to stay in the single digits ie 9k and less -- but that also depends what year you want. there are some very low mileage two or three year old bikes out there, check cycletrader.com to get a feel for average mileages.

Sounds about $750-1000 too much, in my opinion. But I'm far from being an expert.

Funny you should say that, since I found my bike (off eBay) in Texas, and had to ship it over to California. I'm sure you'll come across one soon enough, just have patience.

And if you find one that you really want, shipping isn't too bad. I paid around $400 for shipping (the bike itself cost $2800).

Road trip!

I'm in Michigan and my bike was in Pennsylvania. Me and a couple buddies rented a U-haul motorcycle trailer for about $50 (I think.) With gas/food/trailer it was about $100 less (I think.) than shipping would have been, and it was fun.

Plus you can inspect the bike before you put down the cash.
