Default h22a w/ f22 tranny?

i tried a search but couldnt quite find what im looking for. basicly, i want an h22a, and to cut cost corners i discovered that h22a.org did a 4th gen swap retaining the f22a tranny (http://www.h22a.org/4gswap.htm paragraph 3). i am supposing that this works, but how well? are the gear ratios the same/similar?

whatever input you have would be great.

Ive got a 2000 and my mechanic said the h22 engine would fit just fine to my f23 tranny so im assuming that your f22 tranny should be a fine substitute but the lude gear ratio is closer...whether or not its a big difference im not sure of but dude you shouldnt cut too many corners, esp on something important like this. Good luck dude.

well, check out my thread on this board. looks like i have a f22 tranny on the h22a1 swap i just did. i didnt know i was getting an accord tranny, but it seems to fit perfectly. once i get the part i need, i can fire it up and tell you what its like. probably have to mess with the gear ratios a bit, but hey the way gas is so much right now the accord tranny will be more efficient :-)

they will bolt up to each motor, we were thinking of getting an H23 tranny to put on our Accord race car to shorten the gears up because of the difference between 2nd and 3rd gears

yeah, i did keep my stock tranny, but i've gotta tell you- if you're going to do the swap, you really should use the tranny thats made for it. the f22 tranny SUCKS for racing- falling out of vtec every shift is no fun. i used the f22 tranny for mileage purposes- but i cant stand it any longer; a new tranny is on it's way in.

i agree with sloaccord.. falling outta VTEC does suck but it is great on gas mileage and if you ever decide to boost your accord then the f22a tranny is what you wanna stick with.

only advantage u get out of the f22 tranny is higher top end speeds. also with this tranny you can look forward to being about .5-1 second slower in the 1/4

You aint wrong about the accord tranny being ****.
I went the cheap way out with my h22a 5th gen and boy am i paying for it.
Sure gas mileage is as good as everyone says but when u shift from 2nd to 3rd, u'll be waiting for a while till vtec kicks in.
Keep the accord tranny if ur goin FI.

how far do the RPM's drop below VTEC going from 2nd to 3rd? Any chance a VAFC could drop the VTEC enagagement low enough to take car of that?

A VAFC would help the situation but you will still always want the H22 tranny in the long run, it's better to do it all at once. Again, it all depends on what other mods you will be doing and how you plan on using the car.

HEY bjshanley2112, your signature is the stupidest one i have ever seen, ever. If you are going to quote lyrics from a song make sure you get them right and it would help to if you actually understood what they are saying you're an idot!

only reason you would run a f22 tranny on a boost h22 it you are getting 130mph trap speed if not a f22 tranny going to make you slower

a h22 dont start pulling to about 6000rpms so when you shift you dont want to fall any where under that turbo or not if your reving it to 9000rpms it would work just fine but i dont think you are

F trannies do not like high rpms, the syncro's are beefier in the lude tranny for a reason, and even the lude tranny does not like 8000+ rpm shifts

H22a tranny is the best without a doubt for NA, FI whatever u want

really long gears with FI is a myth

i have vtec kick in at 4800 rpms. i still fall a good bit out of vtec. you have a choice, i suppose, to tune the car and have vtec kick in at the optimal power-making time that is best for the engine, or you could do something dumb like setting the vtec point so you dont fall out of it when you shift. you can't have both. even though it might sound like a great idea, it isn't.

well, we installed an h22a in my buddies 95 accord, (h22aaccord), and we kept the stock tranny in. So far there hasnt been any problems. His vtec is kicking in at 4800rpm and when he goes up close to redline and shifts, he stays right in vtec at all times. The only mod we ended up doing was putting in a centerforce (dual friction) clutch. Other than that, the drivtrain is completely stock. I wouldnt say that the F22 tranny is crap. I think it has more to do with what your preference is. Anyway, with a crappy run and full interior, he still ran a 15.4 in phoenix.
