noob to audio, question about amp to power a 12

I have a 12w6 JL audio subwoofer. My friend is going to sell me a 400 watt amplifier. Will that be substantial enough to power the sub? Or will I need more power? I want to have the bass hit. Thanks.

Make sure that the amp does 400w at 2 ohms.
