Default Ticking on startup and from 3-4k until fully warmed up...?

At first I thought it was my valves, but now 2 days after I've gotten an adjustment, it still makes the noise. At more than 1/2 throttle or from about 3-5k RPMS, my car ticks like hell, and I have no idea what it is.

I had a CEL thrown tonight, but it disappeard after I restarted the car. I was low on gas at the time if that matters, and had been low all night.

After I've been driving for a while, the ticking disappears only to be replaced by a VERY faint grinding noise, like something spinning is barely hitting something that is stationary. I only get these noises when I'm on the throttle.

Anyone have any ideas? I had hoped my valve adjustment would fix this, but no dice.

can you hear it from inside the car?
My distributor makes a sound like that when the car is warming up then it goes away. Put your ear right on the distributor and see if it is that.

The valves were adjusted by a local import shop, so they knew what I had under the hood and I'm sure they adjusted them correctly.

I can hear it MORE when I'm inside the car running thru my first few gears rather slowly. It gets REALLY loud at WOT. It seems like it got worse today.
I'll check and see if I can hear it coming from the dist. tommorow, otherwise the shop is gonna take a look at it this week hopefully.

Does anyone know what detonation would sound like, cause on person told me thats what it might be.

What headers are you running? Sounds like a carcked header to me man.

Stock header with a DC 4-1 in the living room waiting on a muffler to install it all.

I don't know if its cracked, haven't really looked.
