input on year/make of hatch too buy 4 auto-x and daily drive
Hey guys ,
Hey guys , I'm looking into buying a stock civic h/b. Looking too spend no more then $5G's the year and model type would deppend on your input. I guess what I'm looking from you guys is ...................what year and model would be the best platform to start off with . I plan on doing some auto-x next year on the weekends, and a daily driver in the rest of the week. if the original engine had too many miles on it i would consider swapping it and turboing. ( if only my $$$$$$$$ tree would start to grow ) but for now the stock engine would get only i/h/e/

Since you have a 5k budget, I suggest a 92 - 95 Hatchback. I would look into the SI model because it has 4 wheel disc brakes which might save you some money when you go to upgrade the brakes/suspension. Also, It has more features than the other models (DX, CX, VX) which I would think makes it a better daily driver. The engine also is more powerful and is a Sohc Vtec (D16Z6) engine.
In conclusion, it basically depends on your favorite model hatch. Good Luck!

There are no 96 EX hatchbacks, at least not in the US. Only CX or DX, and no VTEC.
But to answer your question, I would think the 92-95 Si would be a nice choice due to the extra creature comforts, but also because it has a decent engine and brakes already, and you have to watch what you change on the car for auto-x. Either 92-95 Si, or get a 99-00 Si.

Don't sweat it, I figured it was a typo. I just wanted to make sure you did not think there was a 96-00 hatchback that came with all the good stuff.

That's true, they can be tough to find. You are in CA though, so when you do find it, the elements may be kinder to it than out here in the midwest. So many beat up, rusty Civics here.
