Default Hot Weather Solution for Our ITR?? Help!!

Ok.. last night was cool, I took my R for a spin... damn it feels so fast, especially when I took it near 8400 RPM (before cut off) on 1st-2nd-3rd...

then, this afternoon, I want another spin.. but HeCk, the car is just lagging.. so slow... can't believe it is that slow!!!!..
I thought it was the AC, then I turned it off, waited for 10 minutes, then try hitting VTEC again.. Still.. I couldn't feel the PULL like it usually does..
I stopped, check the OIL level, it is fine... tried again, still the same..

it is about 90-95 F today...
I just hate my R being tamed by the weather.. what is the solution on this matter? AEM Intake? COMPTECH ICEBOX?

I think I like AEM, but I want 0% chance of HydroLock...

Thanks Guys..

PiYo-who learned a Lot from ITR owners in H-Tech...

Coolant temp and oil temp will affect the performance for sure...

Do u have a low temp thermostat and hi pressure radiator cap? What kinda engine oil are u using? Well I will get the thermostat and the radiator cap first for sure. And maybe 2 gauges to monitor the coolant and oil temp, maybe one more for oil pressure too!

U will find them very useful on monitoring the condition of your engine

How old is your R? I remember driving my R last summer and it felt slow.. Then in the winter it felt noticibly faster especially with the AEM CAI installed.
Now that its summer again, its still feels fast.. Much faster than last summer. This suprised me because it gets 80 to 90 degrees over here.
I have 27,000 miles now. I had around 8 to 10,000 miles during the summer last year.

Mine is a 2000, with 11K miles right now..

I think I will consider an IceBox...

so the R get stronger as it gets old, eh? hehehe

It definitely feels much stronger than last year. I made sure to work the engine hard when I was around town because most of the miles are cruising miles (constant 70 - 80 mph) . I wanted to make sure to break in the engine good. Good luck and have fun with your R!

Mine also seems to get MUCH better after a full track day. Maybe all the carbon gets blow out, but the car is noticeably better for a few days after a day spent lapping. Seems to rev faster, accelerate better, etc.

Getting an intake which keeps u from sucking hot air in the engine bay is also one way to go. AEM CAI, ARC super induction system etc will do it. Or just keep the stock airbox and get hi performance in box filter, connect one of those big silver hoses that u can get from Home Depot from the bumper area facing to the front to your air box, which use to direct cold air to your intake.

HOT AIR WILL REALLY WEAKEN YOUR ENGINE'S OUTPUT!

Yes for the thermostat u can get either get SPOON/ARC/Mugen. All work great which will keep your coolant temp quite a lot lower man! Even better to get along with a hi pressure radiator cap. They all help u to run your engine cooler. See if this way work first. Also try to keep your eyes on the oil temp at the same time.

Do NOT misunderstand though!

That the CAI wether if it is the Comptech "which I have" or the AEM,will not give you a BIG boost in high degree weather especially if there is higher humidity.

The Stock OEM intake IS a CAI by design. True the AEM and Comptech pull air from lower in the fender well but it will not be THAT much different in performance Especially if it's JUST a HOT MUGGY day "90 or above"!

Although I would start modding with a CAI and then to H and then to E but, E only if you are planning on internals or just want a louder sound.

NOW, the thermostat and radiator and guages are wise improvements for high heat performance as well as adding the Redline radiator additive. These methods are used to assist performance when the car engine isused as a race car either for Gymkana, Auto-X or even true race cars in the touring car and GT class.

I too notice the lag in the Hot and Humid days dut I felt it with my old PY when I drove it from NY to Miami this last February too so I chalk it up to the hot weather. My old car was Stock. My new one has a Comptech CAI currently and I know what you are talking about.

The thing about the R getting faster is true to a certain extent too. It has to do woth the engine breaking in but should be already done for you since it is usually finished seating everything by 5,000 miles or so.

On the other hand I've had the experience of having two R's and I have to say that I definately notice a difference in them performance wise. My second NBP is quicker and gruntier. It has a stronger pull and a torquier feel and this was before the CAI!

IMHO of course,

Good luck,

A.
