Driving the R with shingles all over my right side = holy mother of god.
Well my biggest fear of owning a stickshift car, then have something happen to my shifting arm has come true. I just got back from getting McDonalds breakfast driving in 2nd gear the whole way there. I took the day off work, and shouldn't need to go anywhere until Monday afternoon (which should have me covered for the healing process), but is launching and driving the car in 2nd gear for short distances and low speeds OK for the clutch/tranny?

I was curious also, so I checked NIH and found:
What is Shingles?
Shingles is an infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is the virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. The disease generally affects the elderly, although it occasionally occurs in younger and/or immunodeficient individuals. The first sign is usually a tingling feeling, itchiness, or stabbing pain on the skin. After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face. The rash develops into small, fluid-filled blisters which begin to dry out and crust over within several days. When the rash is at its peak, symptoms can range from mild itching to extreme and intense pain. Contact with a person with shingles may cause chickenpox (but not shingles) in someone who has never had chickenpox before.

Shingles is one of the most painful diseases that an adult can have. Once you got it - you have it for life and it comes back to haunt you ever once in a while
Hope that clears up man!

Ehh technically you always have it if you've ever had chicken pox. When you get the 'pox as a kid, it goes dormant in your nervous system. As an adult it can flare up again when your immune system weakens for whatever reason, be it dietary or stress related. When I had chicken pox as a kid I seriously had like 10 pox total, which according to my doctor is probably why I have a gigantic case of shingles at the age of 20.
So what's the verdict, 2nd gear launches, good or bad for a few days?

The only thing that it'll hurt is your clutch. If it can handle it, no prob, it'll just wear it out faster because you have to feather it so much to get started.

I'm not sure HOW it happened, it would seem to me the horse would go OVER the car and just have some broken legs, I have no idea what in the world was happening to make it fly superman style through the windshield.

Starting out in 2nd is cool.
Same with 3rd and 4th.... if there is ice and/or snow and you can't get traction in 1 or 2.

ugh, shingles. i have never seen pics of it but my overactive imagination is MORE than enough to vividly picture what it is like. hope it goes away soon so you wont infect any of us at any future dyno meets
i think david letterman had to take a few weeks off of his talk show recently because of shingles.

The only good thing about it is that you can't give someone else shingles, I'm only a danger to people who haven't had chicken pox yet that decide they're going to stick their hands up my shirt then stick their fingers in their mouth and rub their eyes
