Jody McGovern
hey i just found this sight. obviously i was jody's girlfriend (the girl in the car accident). its so great to see all of these wonderful postings. i thank everyone. i just want to clear things up, now i have the police report, i know what happened, well i know what didnt happen. According to the police report his speed was not able to be determined. Im good friends with the cops from where the wreck happened and one night we were out at the bar and they even said that it did not make sense. his skidmarks were in his lane. if he woulda been speeding he woulda apexed the turn and been in the other lane. He was not racing anyone. He would not have swerved for an animal, animals always would run out in front of us (we drove around ALOT) and he knew the consequences if he woulda swerved, so he NEVER did. he never would drive all out with me in the car. i know speed/racing was not what caused the accident. i dont remember what happened, i remember bits and pieces of the hour up to the accident, like thoughts, things we were talkin about and looking at the clock (i know i dono why i remember that). i want to go to a hypnotist to try to remember. i want to know why i lost my best friend. also, just to know what we were talkin about right before the accident, what song we were listening to and whatnot.
I stay in touch with his mom, eileen. we talk daily, she is like my second mother now. im also the grand marshall for Pittsburgh Thunder (the drag race in pgh) so i want to see all of u there! Obviously i couldnt make it to the funeral so i dont think ive met any of you.
as for me, im gettin by ok. its hard, he instilled a love of cars in me and now everytime i do anything car related i think of him (in a good way of course). he taught me how to drive a stick, he made me a damn good driver, he always told me that i could beat any of his friends. he ALWAYS let me drive his precious car. he would let me drop him off at work and take it out. it was great. he was so good to me. im spoiled for every other man! im talkin to a girl selling her type r, i really wanna buy it. its a black 2001 just like jody;s. however, i dont have the money for it. i get a settlement from the accident, but that could be two more years. of all people to loose, he was the hardest. i loved him to death, and if u ever heard him talk about me he loved me to death. he always said (and i have love letters) that he would give up ANYTHING, even cars for me. of course i would never have him do that. i know, if he had a choice, right before we hit the tree, he would have chose to die if he got a choice ( i know thats unrealistic, but its just showing how much he loved me). we were in a little fender bend once before and he spun out and coulda pulled it out, but there was a .1% chance we;d hit my side of the car, so he tanked it, and hit the front end instead of trying to spin all the way around. i spent everyday with the guy, he was my best friend and i was his.
im back in school. i got to carnegie mellon in pittsburgh. in order to get caught up ill have to go summer school and whatnot. but id love to get together with you guys. im going throught withdrawl - someone MUST let me drive their r. even if its just around a parking lot! obviously, i got pretty messed up, but im SOOO lucky. i dono if a lot of you know, but i was saved b/c my seat broke and i flew to the back of the car. and the day before the accident jody said "the seat isnt bolted all the way in, if i was every in a wreck that would save the passenger." how weird is that!?!??! and im not kidding! its like he somehow knew. i broke a few bones, including my head, had to have emergency surgery and have to have knee surgery this summer. but im living and gettin back to school and whatnot. so please give me a shout back, i wanna meet/talk to whoever went to the funeral. thanks again to all of you!

Hey, glad you found the site! I used to live in Pittsburgh and had the pleasure of knowing Jody (and I think i may have met you once, perhaps at Speed of Sound...dunno for sure. I saw him a few times there, and he AutoXed with us at the Airport a couple of times). I had the honor of driving point in the funeral procession at his Parent's request, I'll never forget it.
Glad to hear you're doing well and that you're at CMU, great school! Keep in touch, we're delighted to have you on the board, Mrs. McGovern made a wonderful speech at the Type R Expo a couple weeks ago, he's in our thoughts

It's really nice to find out who Jody's girl was... it's real nice to hear from you and glad your doing better. Our hearts are out to you... thanks for the right up.
I dont recall the person or the situation but I am glad you are ok and that you can join us. Like I said I never knew Jody but he seems to have been a great guy. Its always sad to see a good ITR owner leaave us that way.
Glad that you're ok... really sorry to hear about this whole mishap....
Is there a picture of you and Jody together that you can show us? I remember seeing a "reflection" of Jody from a Type R hood, but don't think I've ever seen his face. If you don't want to do that, that's no problem at all......

Didn't know jody very well, but I do remember him replying to one of my post just a few days before the accident. He was a nice guy and was very helpful, he will be remembered forever. When i first heard the news i was in shock. It is hard to believe how fagile life really is. Few weeks afterward, when i browsed the h-t forums, i would occasionally see EagleR replying in them. Then I would realized that it was an older post
. Best wishes to you and your family, I know you are probably hurting these times, but all of us at h-t are hurting with you.

I was there too, although I only met Jody once or twice and talked to him online a couple of times. I barely knew him and he offered to let me borrow one of his helmets at the time for an autoX. The whole thing took me by surprise (obviously) because that same night, I was driving around in Pittsburgh, I have the same car (down to even the color) and Jody and I were the same age. Just kinda woke me up, so to speak.
I moved out of Pittsburgh, but I will most likely drive back during the summer at some point. You're more than welcome to drive the R when (if) I take it back to Pittsburgh.

Stephy,
I am very sorry for your loss but am glad to hear your on the road to recovery. I never met Jody or knew him for that matter but from what I've read on the board he seemed like a great guy. The accident hit home for me cause I live in Pittsburgh/cranberry area. I live in a town called butler not sure you ever heard of it. There are a bunch of import owners up my way and you'd be more then welcome to meet up with us sometime to BS about cars. I don't have a R but I do have a GS-R I could let you take a spin in. I think it would be great if we could arrange a honda-tech meet in the PA area. To bad you weren't going to Carlisle my friends and I will be there. Anyways just wanted to pop in and say hello!!

Great to hear from you!! Hearing Mrs. McGovern speak at the banquet practically brought tears to my girlfriend and my eyes.. I hope that you can find an R for yourself.. I'm sure many of the h-t members will answer and questions you have and help you in any way possible..
