Default new turbo kit, stock internals, how should i upgrade?

i have upgraded injectors, fuel pump, fmic, and radiator. What thing should i do to build the internals so it doesnt blow. runs about 6-7psi daily. Also have test pipe with exhaust and pullies(minus crankshaft), msd ignition and 8.5 wires and ss blaster coil. any help would be great. (turbos been on for about 2500 miles now).

Do the typical H22 built motor: Forged pistons, forged rods, and sleeve the block......
You shouldn't even come close to blowing your motor at 7 psi......first investment I'd make if I were you is a good EMS (hondata or aem) and tuning time, as kits usually offer crap for fuel management. What size injectors?

Hmm, I've been debating a homemade 'junkyard' kit turbo kit for my H22 hatch. I have a JDM H22, so it's closed deck.. You guys sure that'll take 5-7 PSI without a prob? I'd LOVE the extra HP. What's that worth on a stock motor HP wise?

wow my bad... ha nm the injectors, i have a vortech fmu and an inline fuel pump. Dunno what i was thinking, but it runs kinda rich so u dont think ill have any probelm with the ratio with boost yet. exactly what is sleeveing and how much should i expect to pay?

I think im going to do a junkyard turbo kit, i also would like to know if it would hold 6-7 psi on stock internals

EK22Tim,
There's this nifty formula i picked up out of HCI magazine may 2003 ed that gives you a theretical hp gain for any amount of boost.

just do...

{(turbo psi)/(14.7 which is atmospheric psi at sea level) + (1)} X Stock hp

so if you ran 7psi on a stock h22a (guessing hp at 200 for the sake of example)

{(7psi) / (14.7psi) + (1)} X 200hp = 295hp

Now all of this is theretical and can be swayed alot by how much you build up your engine before going turbo and the compression volume of the turbo ,but thats what you should shoot for. And if anyone wants to use this for a car with a factory turbo to see what a turbo upgrade will yeild simply subtract the factory turbo psi from the new turbo's psi. Hope i helped out a little.

!!! WOW. that's some gooood numbers. Now that's looking much more tempting.
But can the engine handle it looking foreward from a reliability perspective? I mean, can I run 6 PSI for 5 more years without an issue? (not that that will happen, stuff will be upgraded, but what if I lost my job or something, theoretically?) I have a pretty good idea on how to do this, and have worked with turbo DSM's a lot in my past and actually have turbo DSM stuff laying around to use (SMIC, BOV, boost controller, blown turbo, etc) I Know I can do it. Just worried about internals. What do you guys think? Ya gotta take into consideration that my comp ratio is 10.5:1 too.

Sam ive got an h22 in a 93 lude having a lot of little problems witht the car it's self. My clutch just went out, and i want to go turbo. All ive done is the swap intake, exhaust... thats it. What would you suggest as far as clutch, turbo, header, even down to the internals and tunning. Let me know... thanks.

Ek22Tim...with 5-7 psi i wouldnt worry at all if you plan on replacing your internal parts(i cant stress that enough to anyone reading this). But hey if something happens and you cant afford the get forgeds pistons(JE great company) and rod and sleeve the block then try, for the love of god, to not drive your car like alot of us do...i.e. no racing. My main concern is your compression ratio...you gotta bring it down to like 9.5:1 sure your gonna lose some hp but your turbo will make up for it and plenty more.

Fromaroll, ACT has some nice clutches, for your turbo it depends on your budget they're are alot of kits out there for the prelude(think greddy has one) but if you've got the $ build your own custom kit. Turbonetics is a great company that'll put together a custom turbo for your own need. With your turbo exhaust header you could go with a cast header that will save you some money and space in your engine bay(and sometimes perform close to an equal length design) or you could once again go for a custom built job...companies like pacific performanc or cybernation are reputable. And any muffler shop can bend the pipes for you.

Cool, ok so I will need basically rods, pistons, sleeved block, lower CR, and then build my kit eh? Any rough guesstimates how much the internals alone would cost me?

How much will a thicker headgasket lower compression and which ones are good?

not to hijack...

I spent around 4 grand building a nice bottom end...... 1000 to sleeve, thats about the average rate now......i got GE personally.... araias pistons.....if you can get ahold of them were about 750, crower rods i got a deal on at 1000, and new bearings etc/ seals for another 300..... so 4 grand is a good estimate for a awesome motor.....don't mess around with thicker head gaskets, unless you plan on keepin the motor stock and running at max 8 psi
