Default Rice

The term "ricey" is being thrown around way too much these days. I have a couple questions for everyone. First of all, is painting brake calipers "ricey?" What about painting your rims? Every "ricey" mod has it's own purpose to whoever the "ricey one" is. I'm just curious to see if anyone else feels the same way. Not trying to start a flame war here, just want some opinions.

Edit: Mods please don't lock this thread, if it shouldn't be here please just move it?

I think painting your calipers isn't ricey if you haven't modded your car a while and you need a quick something to catch the eye.

Rice defintions vary from person to person.

To me Rice is a modifaction that is a waste of time and bought b/c the owner had money to spend on his/her car. I.E Walking into Pep Boys and buying some parts and **** there just b/c you had 40 bux.

In a way yes and no. Some people paint them to front like they have a sweet caliper setup and some just paint them to look better with their car. More on the ricey side IMO.

I think rice is the intended illusion of speed...or to put oneself on the level of others who have such a speed-oriented setup. Or perhaps modifications that draw attention to the car - modifications that allude to speed (exotic body kits, wings), without actually having speed to back up one's mask. (those might be the exact same thing).

ie. painting calipers to look as if aftermarket ones might be present.

However, I dont want to confuse this with the desire for personal expression. Its a rough subject. I mean, people's motives are different. Guy A over here could say he just loves how body kits look, and doesnt care for speed. Fine.

Guy B over here puts type R stickers on his car b/c he wants people to think he is something he is not. Guy B sucks.

i think rice is what some people dont like about somebodies car. " those altezza's are so rice" or "those wheels make your car look ricey"

what if some one came up to your car and said "that FMIC make your car ricey!" its just gotten out of hand now

Well put...

It's getting a bit crazy on h-t, it gets thrown around so much and it has basically lost it's original meaning. If someone doesn't agree with the mod\style it is automatically 'rice.' I am even starting to see people calling JDM style rice.

i think rice is when u have stickers that say "DOHC VTEC" or "TYPE R" when all u really have is an RS. i guess my definition of rice would be trying to tell ppl your car is this and that when it really isn't.

i think painting calipers is kinda ricey.. for a simple fact that they are STOCK... but i think if u have RED BREMBO brake set wid some nice big RED CALLIPERS... i think that would look better than painted calipers... but i never ever mock at any ones car so i really dont care but yeah i sure do hate the racing wings that go on the roof of a hatch back and then the car catn go thru mcdonalds drive thru and all.. dayum that sucks hehe but rest all is good man.. as its different strokes for different folks...

That is what I was looking for. Well put Neo. That is definetly the best definition of rice, I have seen thus far. Thanx everyone for your input.

i thinl painted calipers are not rice, i painted mine gloss black for two reasons one the original surface of the calipers were discolored from my rim cleaner spray. so i figured it would look better it also matches my car. oh thats two.

i think it depends on how well of a job you do onthe calipers.. i have seen some that looked crappy and makes it seem more "ricey" but i have also seen them done really well and although it obviously didnt do anything for the performance of the car, it did look pretty good. Would i do it? perhaps if i had hte paint and i was in teh right mood.

<--- Eric who is ricer at heart puhahaha...

i think the definition of 'rice' is different within each and every person.
people who like to make their cars 'stylish' and put altezzas on just because they like they style of them, i dont think would be rice. if the intent of the altezzas was to look like it was fast, sure itd be 'rice' in my book. but what is 'rice' to one person could be attractive to another.

why is buying altezzas to 'upgrade' ur styling any different from buying 98+ taillights? why would altezzas be rice and 98+ taillights not be? (assuming u have 94-97 tails ofcourse)

so i think rice to one person could be style to someone else.

so to each his own.

btw i hate altezzas and i bought 98+ tails for my 95 gsr.

putting things on the car that is less functional than the original parts is rice IMHO. Nearly every Altezza taillight sucks in terms of light output and being able to see the tail and brake lights from behind, not to mention it's copying a style invented by Toyota, and actually used first on the MKIV Supra.

But I personally don't give a rat's **** what people think about painted rims, mine are and that's the way they will stay because I think they look awesome.

i bet thats how some 'ricers' feel about their altezzas and aluminum wings

YOU RICER!
jk

probably the worst thing that bothers me about altezzas is how the light output is usually pink, besides some of the rediculous looking styles IMO

rice to me is when somethin just looks hella wack or too much...some body kits are cool, but the body kits that look like they eat kids are foul...thats rice...some painted calipers are cool when they are done with style...like black, some reds...etc...but glow in the dark green spray painted, or yellow and red calipers on the same side of the car...that looks ricey to me...and fake *** Si stickers on silver, or green Ex civics get on my nerves too...kinda ricey...but not as much

exactly. those pics are some of the best examples of rice. rice has lost its meaning, its different to every person as you can see from every post so far. rice to some means a body kit, to others its LED lights in your wiper holes, etc. rice is just tacky, sh*t not needed and that makes your car look just stupid. like a huge yellow nike check mark on the side of your old red prelude running from your front fender to your rear fender (that guy lives down the dtreet from me).
