are piggyback computers adequate?
for those of you with aftermarket valvetrain upgrades, are piggyback computers (unichip, v-afc etc.) flexible enough to get decent results after tuning??
a few of the people i've spoken to say they are a waste of money and to go out and buy a powerfc, hondata or something else along the lines of a standalone programmable ecu, the problem with this is that a powerfc costs around $2000 and a unichip or v-afc would set me back around $500. $1500 buys a type-r transmission
also, tuning a powerfc is more costly as there are less people with expertise in it.

depends on ur mods is what i say. alot of guys rag on tuning with a VAFC but u use it to take out the peaks and valleys in the air/fuel ratio. i think its a great tool if used correctly. i see ur from sydney though, do u have access to many dynos down there???
Adequate for what?
For mild cam upgrades and low boost engines, it's pretty difficult to justify the cost and tuning time of a standalone. AFC's are proven tuning tools in these situations.
On the other hand, trying to tune a race motor boosting 1 bar with a piggyback would be an act of frustration.
You'll have to determine a balance of desired tunability and cost...
Also, Hondata units start at under $300.

i don't know of any place in sydney that can tune hondata ecu's. i'd need something else. a powerfc is too damn expensive.
