Do thermal (ceramic-type) exhaust coatings restrict power? Think about it.
I heard that ceramic coatings on headers won't allow the piping to expand because of heat, and restrict power. Since much less heat would radiate from the pipes, the exhaust gas would remain hotter, at a higher pressure, and restrict flow. Or, it could restrict the expansion of the piping and have less power potential, couldn't it? But also, it would reduce engine compartment heat and not heat up the intake air as much...more power? Enlighten me please.
A SS header will expand from the heat (as does any material), but not by much at all (I'd guarantee that if it did expand, it wouldn't be enough to make any power). Actually, the heat being kept in the exhaust is a good thing. If you look at most racecars, they'll have wrapping on their headers to keep heat in.
