Trying to help a friend out, question to the pros on the board.
It's a question about a BMW with auto transmission, I know this is HT but I thought I’d try anyway. An old friend of mine took their parents 92 BMW 735i out for a drive and I guess somewhere along the drive he decided to do a neutral drop and smoke a little. Well he dropped it but it didn't go, he said that the car will not go forward at all only reverse works. Does anyone know what usually brakes in an auto transmission when you make a neutral drop, and where can I find pdf file or a layout of that transmission on the internet kinda like the layouts in http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com? I need all the help I can get and id be thankful of anyone who helps.
PS. No this is not a joke so don't leave replies like that.

BMW's are notoriously known for being difficult to repair without support from the dealer. This is especially true for the latter models.
And don't kid yourself into thinking that you can just look at a diagram, point your finger at a part, and crack the tranny open. There's a reason that some professional mechanics won't touch those things.
You might want to try one of the BMW boards for info. Anyhow, good luck.

A friend of mine started having problem with his BMW and asked if he could get parts/diagram. They said he would have to but a new $8000 transmission. They do not service the transmissions. Then they just send the core in to the BMW rebuilder.
