custom piping on stock muffler
i got custom 2.25" piping for my 5th gen accord with an RSX-S muffler welded on to fit my car.
well, it sounds nice at idle and WOT... but around 2.5k-3.5k rpms it sounds like a damn geo metro. i'm thinking the piping is rattling against the heat shield thing cuz when i looked under it was about a centimeter from touching.
a muffler shop said that the muffler is shot, but it doesn't make sense since its off a new RSX.
is it simply because of the larger piping on a stock muffler?

well my buddy did the same set-up but using an integra gsr muffler and it did to same thing!! he had a b16a swap on a civic hb with headers and cam gears and intake. what i told him was that your gsr muffler can handle that much air going through it. your opening up the exhaust path means more exhaust gases are going through the pipes. the stock rsx muffler was designed to run a set size pipe by the manufacter for flow and sound.
hmm...
nizmugen on h&a.net has a 5th gen accord with crush bent 2.25" axle back w/ an rsx-s muffler and it sounds great.

Add a resonator somewhere along that b-pipe. I used to have custom piping w/o a resonator and a oem integra type r muffler. It had the same rattling/high pitch sound. After I changed my piping to an apexi one w/resonator it did not make that sound anymore.
dont u lose hp with resonators though? i guess i dont really mind as long as it isnt a loss in the low end.
it sounds a bit extreme, but someone from the other board w/ an h22a accord said he lost 20hp when he had a resonator put on his tanabe rm.

A resonator should not affect the flow much. I don't get how you could lose 20hp from just a resonator heh. Most cat-backs like the tanabe racing medallion already have resonators welded onto the b-pipe. Unless the guy with the accord had custom piping with a tanabe rm muffler.
