Not enough room to heel-toe...?
Hey, I've been thinking of picking up an EF Si hatch, but I took my buddy's hatch for a spin, and I didn't have enough room to heel-toe. The seat was all the way back. Everything was stock. Anyone have this problem and did you fix it? Maybe a bucket seat would help cause it sits lower?? btw I'm only 6'1", not overly tall.
no no... when you're on the track, and you downshift, you rev-match so that your tires dont break traction with the road. I should've been more specific. In any case: you have your foot on the brake as you're coming into the turn, then you pivot your heel to blip the throttle when you downshift.
Figured it was just easier to say heel-toe. Guess not.
BTW I've never seen initialD.

Not enough room because of the steering wheel location? Thats my problem not that I ever hit the track for autocross or anything. If thats the case you can always get a wheel spacer, but I don't how far you really are from the steering wheel in the hatch.
I'm 6'1" and I can do it fine. I use the ball of my foot to push the brake and the other side to push the gas. Sometimes I just bump the throttle linkage with my toes. Just be glad you don't have a 1G crx, those have pedal boxes so tight I can barely fit my feet in them with boots on.

Yeah I have the same problem also. I can't manage to fit my foot in the right location to heel toe and I'm only 5'8. Seems as though their isn't enough room in the right lower corner down their where the pedals are. But maybe its just me and my wide *** feet.
My knee hits the steering wheel, and leg hits the center console. 5'10". Haven't had a chance to try it with the sparco yet, but I'll see.
i have an adjustable gas pedal, it has a little lip that comes off the side so that its closer to the brake, i just use the ball of my right foot to keep on the brake and then use my heel to hit the lip on the gas pedal. works like a dream. i am 6'2 and have a size 12 shoe

Yeah, I guess it's a combination of the civic seats being really awkward, the steering wheel, and the angle at which you sit. I think if I were to get a racing seat that sat a little lower than the stock one, I'd be ok.
That wheel spacer is a good idea too. I didn't realize they had those. Would I need something like a momo hub first?
Azroth, do you have an aftermarket seat, or a different steering wheel?

as it was posted earlier you really do not need to rotate your foot much to blip throttle from the brake pedal. get those aftermarket pedal covers (you only need the throttle and a brake one), prefferably adjustable ones. those will bring the pedals closer to each other and put them almost on the same plane. the key is to adjust your throttle pedal height as to have it even with the brake pedal during s moderate braking. then you use the ball of your foot to apply the brakes and the toes and the outer part of your foot to blip the throttle.
heel and toe does not imply to actually use your heel to blip the throttle, the original term comes from the early cars where the throttle was a huge "botton" in the floorpan right across the brake pedal, so heel-toe reffered to pushing that "button" as you apply the brakes, to synchronize your gears. nowadays, you do not rotate your foot at all.
hope that this helps

who heel-toes on a rex and a Zcar.

you guys shold try being 6'7" with a size 16 shoe!!!! I haven't accually tried it yet, but I could probably hit the brake with my big toe, and the gas with my pinky toe!
Still haven't figured out the point though, I have no problem hitting 1st on a corner without touching the gas.

I do!
I do!
are you actually trying to heel-toe it?? with the specific parts of your feet?? i went down and learned it at a Skip Barber Driving school.. and they said with newer cars.. you could just put your feet vertically over both pedals, so the left of your foot is on the brake, then you kinda roll the right side onto the gas pedal.. thats what i do in my cars.. cause the pedals are soo close.. but thats me.

i've got a sparco sprint in my '88 hatch w/ some custom brackets, so that lowers my seat height a bit, and then i've got a momo monte carlo steering wheel. it's much easier to heel-toe with this combo than the stock mess. however, i'm planning on getting either a hub extension thingie or quick release that both will move the steering wheel closer to me, and out of my knee's way. btw, i'm 6'2.

I've actually tried this way before too. I think it's called "pigeon toe-ing" or something??? I actually find heel-toe much easier to do though. It's easier to apply pressure to the break peddal. Maybe if my pedals were super close and my brake pedal didnt depress so much, I could do your way of controlling it.

Perhaps something got lost in the translation.
Heel/toe is for downshifting not drifting.
In my CRX I just bought some after market pedals (doesn't matter what brand) so that the brake pedal and gas are "wider" achieving the same effect of putting them closer together.
Now that my pedals were set up properly I just had to get past that damn steering wheel that got in the way of my knee. I bought an aftermarket steering wheel with a smaller radius than the stock on and also utilized 2" adapter to put the steering wheel closer to my chest WHERE IT BELONGS!
