Default car not starting!

hey guys, last friday, i took about a 7hour drive across the province, and i stopped twice during the whole time, and each time it was for gas, once i filled up on gas, i go to start the car but it wouldnt! :<.. i had to wait about 10-15mins before i could go again, any reasons for my car to misbehave like that?? oh! and I would have averaged about 70mph!!

any help would be appreciated guys..

thanx

What year is it? Sounds like the characteristics if a main relay gone bad (that usually only happens when it's hot though). Is the starter cranking it and it doesn't fire up? Or just click click? I've heard of ECU's going bad on some of the newer Hondas as well.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Main relay was the only thing that ever caused mine not to start on the first crank, and that would happen after filling up with gas and such.

Is there a thud and the starter doesn't crank? If so, you need to replace the contacts on the starter.

So it cranks but doesn't start... Check to see if it has spark (next time it happens). Coil or ICM inside distributor can get flaky when they get hot. After a long highway run, when you stop for gas your engine compartment gets much hotter than it was while you're driving. Once it cools off your ICM starts working again. Trouble is, once you open your hood & pull a wire to check for spark, it's already cooled down some.

In case it's your main relay, listen for the fuel pump to prime itself by running for a second or 2 when you first turn the key on, before you crank the starter. It's kind of quiet, so you might have to open the gas cap to listen.

The mechanic will have the same trouble. He won't know what it is until it screws up while he's watching.
