Default Critque my set-up.

I listen to a wide variety of music so I'm looking just to get a 10" sub that is more on the SQ side than SPL. Is the following set-up okay for a car audio noob? (I already have the head unit).

Alpine 7894
10" Image Dynamics v3
JBL 300.1

I'm also thinking about a JL 10w3v2. Help me out. I'd like to keep the sub/amp combo under $320. Thanks.

To hell with the W3V2. Why do you want to upgrade? I'd spend the money for that setup on a decent front stage. I don't think that you would notice too much of a difference between the two. That's like going from a Cavalier to a Sunfire.

I think he is saying he does not have a sub or amp yet.

Ej1, either setup will be nice, but what have you done as far as speakers and amps for them also.

Sounds good. I have a 12" ID v3 and I love it. FWIW, it's powered by a Phoenix gold XS series amp and a Clarion HU. If you buy a pre-fabed box, just check out everything is sealed well. You could re-silicone it yourself.

Just some basic Pioneer 6.5" coaxials. I'm considering some 6.5" Focal components powered by a JBL amp and then keep the coaxials in the rear for fill which the HU will be powering, but I'd like to have the bass right now.

Cool. I have not heard either of those subs, but they are very popular.

That Alpine deck rocks. I got the 7893 and I love it. The JL will have great SPL and SQ. I am running a JL 10w3 with a JL 250/1 (not v2) and it sounds great, loud and clear, best of both worlds.

if you are going SQ you need to power your front stage and image your fron speakers. not just get a sub and power it.
