Default b16 timeslips...not good :(

Ok last Saturday I went up to Jackson, SC to the closest dragstrip we have
http://www.carolinadragway.com
My "setup"
-I took out the back seat, and 12" sub/amp, no spare, or jack.
-Sumitomo 205 series tires
-hks intake
-possibly a pacesetter muffler, w/2.5 custom piping
-upgraded clutch (came w/transmission)
-Stock b16a1/j1 transmission
My "Results"
-sucky time
I know I need to get some more traction, but I would still think I could turn up a better time(s)
I tried letting off the clutch @ 3,000 / 3,500 / 4,000 / 4,500 rpm.
It felt like the car should be launched at about 4,500 rpm ,but lack of traction made that useless. My best results tended to be between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm.

Let me know what I should do (besides practice) to improve my times. No stupid answers like MORE POWER! I think that new bushings, jimfab front crossmember, and shocks and springs will help, as will stickier tires.
I have videos w/out sound of all my runs on my gf's comp. but not here. When I had my dx motor the video of it looks like it's in slow motion, as compared to my new motor.
Here's a scan of the timeslips.

best reaction-->0.195
best 60'--> 2.305
best 330'--> 6.430
best 1/8th--> 9.827
speed--> 72.59mph
1/4 et---> 15.368 @ 89.97 mph

there they are wow. i guess nothing too special, but i'm not religious about the drag strip or anything. i just wanted to go up and see what i could do.

BTW I was hoping for mid to high 14's

Is low 15s bad for a B16 with I/E?

60' is a little high, but the main thing i noticed is that your trap speed is very low..
Are you winding out your gears long enough? If i remember, i was -just- switching into 4th as i crossed the 1/4 when i was running a J1.

Don't worry about it, man. My best time with my B16A, gutted interior, cold air intake is 15.1@92, but I'm still running the crappy stock STD exhaust. Most of my runs were 15.2... I just need some more practice. I see that you have great r/t times so clearly you can drive... are you going to 8 grand in every gear? compression good in the motor?

As everyone says your ET is actually pretty good for your MPH. Sounds like something's not right with the engine or the setup. Have you checked your ignition timing yet? Are you throwing any codes?

The B16A can run excellent numbers but it's a very hard engine to drive quickly due to its lack of torque. Any mistakes during a run will be greatly amplified because of this.

i went 15.46@90.00 with my b16, here is my setup. homemade short ram intake, header, stock dx exhaust, 17s,no tach and no rear seat. i also had kyb agx shocks. i think they helped alot with weight transfer.

Mr. S -- I'm not sure about the compression. I'll probably get all of that checked. No smokin, except when hitting in vtec, and during hard shifts (normal)
I ran almost to 8k in first and then winded em out. And the reaction times kinda suck in my opinion, except the 1st one.

raene -- I'll get the timing checked also. I need to pull up the carpet and check for some codes, but I don't have a check engine light on.

And I know I need better launches. Thanks for the helpful responces.

well, u are running a j1 tranny... but anyhow, suspension may help a little... when i launch my b16 with street tires, i launch at like 2000 or 2500 rpm... anyhow... just practice i guess.

The best time I've ever had with my B16A in my 91 civic hatch was 14.8 and that was with exhaust, intake, and drag radials.

With a better clutch and a better tranny, I bet you could pull a much better time.

with my stock b16 crx i remember i used to launch at about 3500 and spin until vtec and then i would be off from there. my 60fts were somewhere between 2.2~2.25 and my et was 14.27@97. this was header out on street tires and full interior. also HASport mounts and ACT HD clutch.

just my 2 cents

with 20x6x14 slicks on HX wheels my best time was 13.62@100 with 1.8x 60ft times. that was with full exhaust though. anyways good luck all

I would think the j1 would be one, if not the best one for drag racing....wouldn't it. I finish the 1/4 in 4th btw

I finish quite deeply into 4th gear. I don't think it's the best tranny for drag racing, no... I mean, the tranny you really want and that is optimal for your setup changes as your setup changes. I think you should be just approaching redline in 4th as you cross the traps for the best times - of course as you get faster you need to alter that point somehow.

reaction times dont matter, you can sit at the line for 10 seconds and still pull a good time.

His slips look ok to me. Thats similar to what i ran at the track.

Well I'm still a little disappointed. But to entertain everyone, I'll post the videos up tonight! Unless I run out of time. My 1.5 dx vid looks like im in slo motion compared to the new motor....sorry no sound for them.

'91 Civic Si - B16a1, y1, exhaust, ACT clutch, Fidanza Flywheel, shitty street tires, and a little bit of weight reduction.

60 ft. - 2.368
1/8 - 9.667
mph - 74.63

This was my first run ever on a track. It was only an 1/8 mile. I think the tranny is hurting your times the most. I tried different launching rpm's and my time seemed to improve as the rpm's went up, although I never launched at 4500+. I tried to slip the clutch on a couple of the runs, but once the tree starts falling... I panic!!! Good luck man.
