Cobalt Friction Motorsports Wins Kumho 12 Hour endurance race. I know It's not a Type R but, I still
Hey ya'll,
I know it isn't LeMans, but it was my first endurance race, and we finished which netted us a class win at the 12 hours of Homestead(Miami)
This was all made possible by Cobalt Friction Technologies.
Here are some photos from the event:
Aaron, Glen, Chip and I in the photo:
Tein Suspension, Cobalt Brakes, race-sport.net engineering, cybernation motorsports, Acura, Sparco, and Volk Sponsored RSX:
The driver changes were a blast!!!!!
RSX Looking Dirty!!!
So what did I think of the experience? To sum it up, I cannot thank the guys who ran the team enough!
For a full story on all the ups and downs stay tuned to Honda-Tuning Magazine and Hot Compacts and Imports, as they both will have the story covered!!!!!

Hi Blake, congrats on the win!!
It was really nice meeting you at the Expo. I ran in the same group as you and got to talk to you a little bit between sessions.

Congratulations on finishing, and turning out an absolutely beautiful race prepped RSX; I was drooling! However....perhaps your headline needs a little clarification... "Cobalt Friction Motorsports Wins Kumho 12 Hour endurance race." ??? Actually a Spec Racer Ford won the event, completing 374 laps. You guys finished 21st overall, 112 laps behind the winner!
Yes, you guys won your class... and you were the only SPU car in the field.
Just for the record.

Blake: Congrats again on the class win!
Our RX7 got 2nd in class (of 2 lol) but beat dat RSX overall
Hopefully that thing gets running right.
Edit: for the record, the RSX was turning 1:50's if I recall correctly.. which isn't a bad time for that course. No where near the RTR M3's 1:40 or the damned speedsource 911's 1:40, but still. Our RX7 was turning 1:53-1:55's. We did have one alternator and a coil go out but the RSX had far more issues...

In fact I think the RSX ran a 146.50 with Glen the car owner behind the wheel.... As far as what I did I really don;t know. Either way Glen was the man of the hour!
I do know one thing though, when the car gets sorted, which it will..... it should be quite capable.

you make a good point but did you have to ruin my utopia?......It was once said, the world looks great through rose colored glasses, until someone scratches them......
But for the record: the winnning vehicle "overall" was also sporting Cobalt Friction Brakes
- Thanks for the interest and I'll know who to call when I need a Private Investigator

The past weekend was a good learning experience for the Cobalt Friction Motorsports Team and the Acura RSX Type-S, which we will be campaigning this year in Grand Am and SCCA, and possibly some Honda Challenge races. The 12 Hours of Homestead was the first event of this type that the team has participated in, and all things considered, I feel they did very well. We experienced chronic injector problems throughout the race, and had to pit often for injector chnages, and also had to pull out for nearly 2 hours to change the clutch. Despite the roadblocks, I am proud of how our crew and team members kept their head's up and pushed forward to finish the race. As with any racing program, this past enduro was, again, an invaluable learning experience, and I'm sure the Team took home many hard-learned lessons which will only improve their performance going forward.
I feel that based on the number of cars that retired during the event, that for all the teams that were able to manage both their vehicle and resources to complete the event, all deserve a well-earned congratulations, regardless of how they actually finished.
Specifically, congratulations to RTR Motorsports for their strong finish in P1 with their BMW M3's, and to Grassroots Motorsports with their consistent run throughout the race in the "Sooper Cooper".
While I am not involved in the day-2-day operations of our race program (I only step in when it comes to brake system management.), it is encouraging to see the continued enthusiasm from our Drivers and Crew members. I look to pilot one of our cars some day in the future, but I'll have to find a way to talk to my customers on the cellular phone while driving the race car before that day comes. :-)
On behalf of the Cobalt Friction Motorsports Team, I extend to the Honda-Tech.com Community our great appreciation for your continued support.
Best Regards,
Andie

Andie: It was also our first event of it's type (have done 90 minute "enduros" etc before, but nothing THAT long..) and you are right, it was an excellent and invaluable learning experience. We learned where we need to improve upon the car, pit stops (enduros are a min. 5 minutes in ECR so we never hustled THAT much before), etc. Our car ran pretty good minus the problems I mentioned above.
If you guys needed any help you should have run down, I would have been free to help if you needed it (and our car wasn't coming in soon).

the rest of the RSX-S crew/drivers
and a big
to ALL the crew and drivers that were able to get their vehicle to complete a *12 hour* long race.
