Default Recaro SPG review and pics (no i did not take pics of the truck that delivered the seat)

Well I finally got my SPG today thanks to ParPorsche in New York. I got the seat brand new for 750 shipped. It was the best deal I had been quoted so I scooped it up. If anyone wants to get one PM me.

The SPG is made for skinny ****'s like myself. I am 5-11ish and 155lbs. I have a size 32 waist. The seat was a perfect fit for my body. The only thing that I did not like was that the front of the seat under the knees is angled up pretty high, so my knees hit the steering wheel sometimes. Note that this is with the Vision Low Position rails too. Other than that the fitment and quality is of course top notch.

Before this pair of seats, I had the JDM recaros. The JDM seats hold you in well for reclinable seats, but do not compare to the SPG as far as support. The seat is very stiff through turns and the side bolsters really hold you tight. The thing that I was impressed with was the support that my upper body got around the ribs. This is where my old seats could not hold me. Another thing that I liked was that the cushions were removable and the whole seat cover could be replaced if needed and the shell could be reused.

All in all I am very happy with the purchase. I truly believe that there is no better seat for the money. It is very comfortable for street driving. It is a basic fiberglass bucket with holes for a five point harness, nothing you don't need. But enough with the talk, I'll let the seat speak for itself.

Don't need no chick. There ain't nowhere for one to sit anyway. Any girl that wants to sit in my car can strap herself to the rear strut bar.

How much for the seat and the rails? Basically, how much to get that seat in?

The seat was 750 shipped and the rails I got a good deal on for 120 shipped for the Visions. The brackets come with the seat. So 870 total per side.

Actually, you should buy another racing seat.... because then if the girl doesn't fit in it, she doesn't get in it.////
(I think that is the most chovanistic thing I have said to date, but it's funny)

Oh and about that center handbrake cover, it I noted that the Type R badge was placed on that.... any more info on that?

Just wondering, do you have roll over protection? It doesn't look like it from the picture. I thought fixed backrest seats with no roll over proctection is a big NO NO.

Nice seat by the way!

It's a nono on the track, but the car won't see the track again til this summer. Yes it is dangerous if you roll, but on the street that kind of thing is pretty rare. The car will have rollover protection installed within the next month or so, just don't have the funds to do it all at once. The car barely gets driven on the street and I am in the process of making it track only. Thanks for looking out though.

As for the badge, it is the 98 Spec badge I got it from Leo at jdmspecperf.com for 45 bucks shipped. It will fit in the stock armrest, but it would look odd because it looks almost exactly like the one on the stock armrest.

there are actually two sizes for the SPG, although it is not listed.

did you mount the seat on the lowest position on the brackets?

i see you are using the recaro side brackets, they actually don't go that low...

where did you get the vison rails? how much lower do they sit than the wedge engineering ones that recaro provides? and what happened with on-track, i thought you were doing a g-b on these for $650ish?

Is that the smallest size for that seat? I'm having trouble finding one that fits me

no...a fixed backrest seat with even the stock seatbelts with NO roll over proctection is still a BIG NO NO...

With a harness on, it just makes the situation worst. When you roll over with a fixed backrest seat with no roll over protection the seat doesn't deform in a roll over accident (like adjustable back rest seats) and you get yourself a crushed spine/broken neck. Late

jdmspoonitr: Glad to hear you don't drive her on the street that often. As we all know, anything can happen on the street. *knock on wood* Just looking out.

I thought that even with a fixed backrest seat...in the event of a rollover your body is still able to lean to the side
thus
fixed back seat + rollover + stock seat belts = ok

Personally any roll over is NOT ok, but I have seen some JDM racers use fixed seats with no rollover and stock belts.

I am very interested to know the answer to this question as well. I currently have the Wedge brackets but I want to go lower, a lot lower. Where can I find more information on the Vision brackets?

why did you choose this over the Sparco EVO/EVO2?

Looks the same (I love the Evo2's myself...I'm about the same size as you).

One more time...

Fixed back seat + Stock seat belt = Okay?

Fixed back seat + Stock seat belt + Track = Okay?

Fixed back seat + Harness = NO!

Sorry I need to get this clarified because some people say it's okay, and others don't.
