Default Window net mounting hardware - kit - release

Ok, did a search and seems that every aspect of the window net has been covered except for this.

For people that have used different kinds, what's your preference for the window net release mechanism?

- spring-loaded rod
- seatbelt style
- latch style
- anything else?

I only ran across one comment (by shultz) that they liked the seatbelt better.

Spring loaded rod sucks. That is what I have. I have had the net come down before in practice. Luckily not in a race yet. (Knocking on wood very loudly right now.) Seems that the chassis flex can cause the rod to pop out.

Coleman Racing's window net hardware rocks. It is a springloaded design. It will not pop out. Even when rolling a few times . The nice thing about it is that the tabs can be welded out of the way. The buckle type always seem to be hanging down intruding into the passenger space. I have seen/ordered other springloaded designs before getting this setup that really were lame.

I like the seatbelt buckle - simple, idiot proof, very secure.

My car has the spring loaded rod - it works, but just not as nice as the buckle.

I have a spring-loaded rod. It seems to be in there very tight, not sure how it could pop out. Hey Brinson, are you sure Karl didn't help you put the net up the session it popped out.

Anywayz, mine is very tight, so tight as a matter a fact I think I will have to practice getting it off in a hurry. Though, if the car was roasting and upside down, I think I would choose to go out the passenger side.

I used to have the rod/spring flavor and I've played with the seatbelt buckle style in other cars, but I'm using the harness-style latch release. It's pretty idiot proof, attaches firmly, and disconnects fast. I like the seatbelt release ones, but I've heard the mechanism inside the buckle can stick. I've never seen a bad one though.

Been happy with the GM seatbelt latch. Best bet, if you're having a cage installed, is to get the net and kit and give it to the cage fabricator. They can weld in all the tabs when they do the cage, and make a nice clean installation.

That's what I'm planning to do. Need to get something ordered though as the car's going in soon.

Seems like I'm not going to get any type of concensus vote here. The builder showed me a seatbelt latch he was putting in someone's car (someone on this board I believe) and I just wasn't too impressed. I guess if nothing else, you can be sure it'll stay put once you snap it in.

I have the latch style from Racer Wholesale. The same type of latch that is used in harnesses, only smaller.
I like it alot. It locks firmly in place, but easily unlatches with a moderate pull. I feel confident that in a very bad situation I could get it undone fairly quickly and easily.

The spring type doesn't impress me. Shultz's fell down on him one time last year during qualifying. He ended up having to jam scrap roll bar padding into it to get it to stay up. Yeah... not so good.

Looks like I have the same one as Scott. I didn't realize Racer Wholesale sold them until reading his post. Looking at their site, it's not a bad deal.

FWIW, here's what it looks like in the car.
