taking off oil filter results in an oil spill...
I dont get it, why does oil keep coming out from where the oil filter hole when i remove the filter. is this normal? I changed my friends oil on his 2002 Si and hardly anything cam out of the oil filter hole, but my d16 motor just keeps pissing oil...its so messy, i hate doing it...what is everyone else doing to keep things clean?

Yes it's normal, it should't be a quart or anything though. You do drain the pan before you remove the filter right? I just squeeze a rag between the filter and the block and catch as much as I can.

Just clean it up and your good to go. Just make sure your oil catch-can is underneath...duh.

yeah, i drain the oil first before removing the oil filter. I just dont like how i have to clean oil in the hidden and hard to reach areas...just a pain, but if its normal, oh well.

Dude you don't have to... Once you take off the filter, oil gets all over your block right? Just put the new one on and tighten that... then grab some brake cleaner and spray the oily mess on ur block. Brake cleaner is a degreaser... Always works for me...

don't use it on cheaply painted parts 
If you don't want ANY oil coming out of the filter...then do this.
Take off oil fill cap and drain oil through drain plug.
Let the car down as level as possibly with your oil catcher underneath. Let the car sit there for 5-10 minutes.
Jack car back up and pull filter- there should be hardly NO oil oozing out
I ususally drain my oil, drop the car down, clean out the interior, and by the time I jack it up, the oil just drips a drop every few seconds....and I'm good to go

He doesn't say to RUN the car for 5-10 minutes, he just means to let the car SIT there for 5-10 minutes so the oil has time to drail out of the engine. It's a good idea, it's exactly what I do also

'round these parts, you can get a mobil 1 oil change done for you, for less than the cost of 4 quarts at a store. i don't know how or why that is, i guess because oil change places buy in bulk

Almost everywhere... Like Emerica said do not use on cheaply painted parts and do not use on ABS sensors... Some brake cleaners will screw up ABS sensors... there are some out there that are ABS sensor safe... Brake clean can sometimes be ur best friend when ur dealing with grease... Also just a lil off topic but... Brake Clean works VERY well when ur trying to remove the residue leftover from scraping off sound deadener...

haha, when i spilled my oil, the first thing i grabbed was "motor spray" for my r/c cars. It worked pretty well the first time, so i kept using it. It sprays hard and evaporates quickly...oh well, whatever works works
