way to protect charging system from a shorting deck?
until i can find the receipt for my deck for warranty service, im gonna need something to keep my deck from harming my car. ever since my system got jacked, the deck makes a popping noise and drains the system (lights dim and rpm drops) whenever i perform a function like on/off, skip, etc.
so i was wondering if theres a circuit i could build to keep the deck from draining the system and only allowing it the power it needs. the internal amp is disabled so i only need enough for the deck to perform its functions + send out the low level signal to my amps.

it doesnt matter where the power is from, the problem is within the deck and it will drain no matter how far it is from the alt/batt. i need to figure out something to isolate it
lol i know i should just do that.. but i cant stand not having music. i might be stuck with it or have to pay for service if i cant find the receipt

thing is... a voltage regulator would be easy to make.. 1 component to be exact. What you're describing is an amp regulator... and other than a fuse... i have no idea. a fuse isn't gonna work unless you like changing them lol. Maybe run a seperate battery to the radio so it's completely isolated from the car's main battery and charge it every night?

any idea on the spec and cost of each? ugh that would be annoying. maybe have a switch that turns on/off the direct line to the battery for charging

Why not just connect it to the ignition? So it shuts of when you turn the key off? I would toss it if I was you it may end up costing you more than a deck. You may end up blowing an amplifier.
