New motor still has small amt. of smoke after 450 miles.
I was leaving work today and I warmed up my car before I left. Just for the hell of it I got out of my car to see if there was any smoke, and gosh darnit there was a small amt. of smoke coming out. What do you guys think it could be? The guy who built the engine torques the head down but does not re-torque it after warming the car up. Could that be it? I heard that once you start the motor and let it warm up it can come out of spec. what do u all think could be the problem?
the guys who built the motor built it cold because it would suck to work on a hot engine. The engine being cold and warmed. the metal expands and could possibly change the specs of the head gasket or and they need to be re-torqued when the engine is hot. Or if the engine is cold have him re-torque it a little over what its suppost to be..
just my 2 cents

may I ask you how cold is it out side. Your exahust is running hoter then the out side temp. just like a cold winter day when you can blow out smoke with your lungs, casue you lungs are hoter then the air outside. and also have you got on it. The car should be broken into for about 500 miles and one more thing i heard that JE piston takes longer to brake in, so if you have that then ran it a little longer. And i have heard about retorqueing exhaust manifold but never head bolts. You'll have to take the timing belt, camshaft and by that time your engine will have cooled off.
The engine does not get "All out of Spec"
Though it is good to Re-Tq the head bolts after the engine has been through heat cyl's
I checked mine after 700 miles and they were right on, Not one head bolt turned!
And think about this, Does Honda ask that all cars come back in for serivce once its been warmed up?
If the engine was Built to Spec, It will usually stay within Spec!
