Poping out of 4th gear while driving 40 mph!!??
Today I was driving my car around, wasnt pushing it at all, next thing i know once i shift from 3rd to 4th, i touch the gas and it pops out of gear. I did it 3 times, happened all three times to. Then i juss skipped 4th all the way home scared shitless. What the hell happenn???
depending on your gear ratios 40 mph is really slow for 4th gear, at least in my s1.. id only be at like 1500- rpms which is near the idle RPM level, if its too near the idle speed it can be very easily taken out of gear or even forced out in that occasion... im just guessing, its probably something else
Sounds like your tranny is fucked up to me (I've been working in a transmission repair shop for about 6 months). Check out some of your local transmission shops, most of them will diagnose your car for free. Let a couple of them drive it for different opinions, but it may be a bad syncro. Actually, before you go ahead and get it checked out, change your tranny fluid. Use Honda MTF.
sounds like your trannies fucked up
good diagnosis. The gears are held in by detents that can become jammed. there are 2 14mm bolts that hold in a spring and ball remove these to see if the ball is crushed into the bolt.

I have never had the tranny pop out of gear unless there was a problem with the synchro. Sometimes I drive 40mph in 5th (still above 2000rpm in my GS-R). I have also had the engine pretty much idling while in 1st gear, just kinda pulling the car along (traffic jam). No problems w/ coming out of gear on mine.

Try adding some more tranny fluid or change the fluid entirely, cause this happened to my friend once he has a 94 civic with a GSR motor swap and we'd be cruising on the highway in 5th gear and it would always pop out when the shifter is left alone so he would have to hold it in gear to drive. Hope that helps. Peace
A friend of mine had a GSR and his throw out bearing went bad and that caused his car to just pop out of gear during normal driving. Cheap part but u have to do basically a clutch installation to fix it.
