Default Anyone here swap their R motor into hatchcrap?

I have the opportunity to swap my R motor, interior, and 5 lug, into a 92-95 bubbleback, and Im very tempted. However I just dont know if Ill regret it. My motor is pretty worked, and it would be INSANE to have in a hatch, but I just dont know. Im particularly curious to know if anyone that has done the swap, did you do the 5 lugs and interior as well and how different(good or bad) was it on circuit track? Are hatches just as capable or maybe more on a road course(Rodney chime in please)? Just wondering if anyone here has done this and regreted it. Even if you havent done the swap Id be interested in hearing your opinion.

Heres my list of pros and cons, add to it if you like. As of right now Im leaning towards the swap.

Pros:
- hatch is more of a sleeper (unless I swap the 5 lug as well), less worry of theft and being recognized like when driving around in a bright *** PY ITR.
- the hatchcrap is lighter so power to weight ratio would be better.
- sell the ITR shell/parts and make some cash from that as well.
- swap is very simple, dont need to many(if any) additional parts.

Cons:
- downgrading from a 2000 model year to a early to mid 90's model year, other than the parts that can swap over.
- getting rid of the R
- hatch as trackworthy as an ITR?

Please dont ask if anything is for sale yet because its not

MANY Honda-challenge racers have R motors in their hatchcraps.

I've thought about this numerous times, but i figure i cant replace ARRRR, so i might as well keep it. God forbid if anything is to ever happen to my car, ill buy it back (if its involved in an accident) then throw everything in a hatchcrap

You have an ITR that is working perfectly fine, and is valued at $18-20k. Why would you want to put all of your ITR stuff into a hatch that is valued at 3-5K? If the hatch gets stolen, will the insurance cover the market value of the R stuff you have in it? If you want an ITR motor in a hatch, but another R motor and put it in the hatch.

If you want a fast hatch build one up. Sell your ITR outright and you will definately save $$ in the end. Hell I would consider a JDM ITR swap over the USDM (better final drive and less emissions).

well to throw in another twist, my R is currently not drivable because it is totaled(due to the interior theft) and I need to retitle it. The retitle process where I live has been a pain in the *** and Im still waiting on DMV to let me know if I have another inspection appointment to get it inspected for the new title. However, I could conceivably have the hatch with the R motor DRIVEABLE in like 2 weeks and be done with it.

As far as insurance goes, I would obviously make sure it would be covered to the full extent possible.

I would try to sell the R with the motor, but it seems that really built R's are very hard to sell, people only want to buy stock or close to stock ITRs so they can do their own build or keep it stock. Plus the car has been totalled twice that will make it nearly impossible to sell even if I wanted to.

as far as downgrading to a hatch, yeah its an older car, but I take care of my **** so I could do what I could to make it decent and not a POS.

Speaking as a former R owner and a snatchback owner 4 times owner I have to say if your R is totaled then throw it in a hatchback.

They are hard to find in really good condition. Just find one with good interior....you can always repaint the car or do the body work. You can insure every part on your car (Depending on your ins company). You will get back the money you put into it (Keep receipts). I have about 10 g's in my hatch and I added extra coverage on my car. Ins raised 20 bux more (But I can fax in copies of my alarm install and get back to about what I was paying before). So if anyone steals my civic I'll go get something else. I'll be taking less of a hit on this car then I would getting a brand new car stolen.

that's really funny- the suspension, floorpan, firewall(with exception of the cowl), are all pretty the same a the 'teg. So if the hatch is a "POS", so is the 'teg! What makes the hatch such a "POS"? The looks? I dig my grocery getter with ITR power!

heh. i guess you still dont understand why most people go with hatchcraps.

they are VERY cheap (2000-5000 for a entire car), crappy, and well, basically racer or ricer on budget...many applications for hatchcraps...but yet, what bustanutt says is fairly true.

unless your really like the 92-95 style i'd get a 96-00
the car is more solid all around, the swap is only a little more involved.

Since you added this twist I would say go for it. I mean the car is totaled so swap the R's soul into a new body. I think an b18c5 powered eg would be awsome especially with the suspension too. I really dont know if it will handle as good even with the suspension since even the R's frame has diffierent welds and reinforcments that the other dc2's didnt have which make the ITR handle better. It will still handle bad *** though. "You can do it......swap the ITR motor in the EG

Yeah ... if you are going to "suffer" by having a hatchback, might as well get the lightest one possible.

ITR has a much stiffer chassis, shorter wheelbase, better steering ratio and a slightly lower CG.

Since the only thing wrong with your ITR is the title, I'd suggest keeping it. If there were damage to the shell it would be a different story.

when it all comes down 2 it swappin ITR parts into a Hatch is always better...put Type R sus in a Hatch, swappin the R motor etc etc the hatch jus becomes better and is lighter...and it wont get stolen as fast a Type R would..but Type R is one of favorite imports..so if u want speed build the hatch into a beast but if not keep the Type R

Yea i kinda agree wit u guys but i think if people really thought bout it they would take a Hybrid Civic over a Integra Type R jus cause the fact they wouldnt have 2 worry so much bout goin 2 a movie and PRAYING their car is still in the lot...and one of the reason alot of people get hatches is because maybe they wanna go faster than a type r can...or maybe they wanna build a race car...or maybe they jus like they way they look than a Type R...i mean wutever dont get me wrong Type R's are much better than a Civic Hatch..but look at half the Type R owners on the site saying " Damn They Stole My Type R Last Night " its a common thing i see that shyt every day i come on this site...YEAH!!! Hybrid Civics get stolen alot but jus not as much as a R does...and but u sayin ooo 2-3000 dollars for a whole car WOW maybe they dont got 17000-25000 dollars 2 spend on a Type R thats most likley gunna get stolen...maybe all they can afford is a 2000-4000 Civic Hatch and build it up den smoke a Type R yea i agree wit u civic hatches are POS but i sure like runnin 12.9's N/A and my brothers friend liked being on SUPERSTREET wit his " Civic " i mean dont feel im being disrespectful but im jus sayin some of the people on this board talk bout money wise on other peoples cars jus because they can buy a 20g car and have fun with it...theres many different reasons y people buy different kinds of imports...hey like 2 years ago was gunna buy a Integra cause i knew they are alot better den a civic untill my friends GSR got stolen out of his drive way and i knew i wanted 2 go faster than a integra can so i bought a hatch sue me ....OVERALL TYPE R's are jus better than Civic's guys lolol

still not decided. I currently own a '92 automatic DX hatch as my commuter, and its as slow as they get lol. Having the R motor in it or another bubbleback would be sick. I have a good feel for what it would be like driving a hatch a lot since I commute in one every day, only my project hatch would be fast a hell. the possible R-hatch that Im thinking of doing would mostly be my weekend track kaa and local kaa show fun on the streets V8 killer as far as the chassis stiffness, thats nothing a little extra welding at my friends shop cant fix.

i say do it
just as long as you take the brakes & master cylinder & booster with you
just find a Civic with blown motor like the one i found in NC
that needed a new core support for $1000

yea CACK *** i think u should do it ull be suprised about the difference
with good driving u can pull a 13.8 or a 13.9 wit a Stock ITR motor in a EG...if u buy a EG get the VX model or CX those are the lighest...dont flame me on that time cause my friend at Englishtown pulled a 13.8 with a Type R EG(cx) wit no back seats no P/S no A/C in a CX hatch...and my friend John pulled a 13.9 with I/H/E in his Teal GSR EG(dx)
