Check this link, it gives all the models and specs of the upcoming 2002 Lancer. Even the sportiest one only has 120 hp. Good one Mitsubishi...

I think that the EVO will come to the states in the next couple of years. Once Mitsubishi gets there head out there *** and see's the Subbie's kicking their *** in sales, they'll do something about it.

The Lancer EVO still has a chance of making it to the states. This is actually a good sign even though there is no high hp version yet. They are just changing the name of the Mirage in order to get the American public use to the name Lancer, so that when the big boy is released the rest of the U.S. population isn't like..."WTF is Lancer?"
Devil Chicken - this was not some random post, it is the official website for the car. They have a link on it for the Evo but it is not featured in the model lineup. I still think the EVO won't be here - not the current generation anyway. The WRX was designed knowing that it would come to the U.S. - the EVO has not had the same preparations to my knowledge. Mitsubishi still seems to be subscribing to the old Detroit theory that American customers will go for the style of a performance car over the substance. Honda and Subaru have wisely bucked this trend - let's see if Nissan, Mazda, Mitsu, Toyota will follow suit.
There is always the 2003...when the STI is supposed to come here, and if Mistu has any brains that will be the year when they bring the EVO over here...I agree with you on the trends, which i like a lot. A lot of interesting and sporty cars are being sold, under development, or going on sale soon....me likes!

I agree. The only question mark is whether or not the new EVO can conform to our crash and emissions tests. As soon as it does, the odds are high that it will come (especially once Mitsu sees the sales figures for the WRX and STi!).
The other question is price/marketing. I think the EVO will cost a bit more than the Sti, I'd venture around $40K vs $32-35K for the Sti. It may be hard to market a $40,000 4-cylinder car that is based on an economy car - this is where being related to the base EVO may come back and bite the EVO in the ***. Americans are still very pre-occupied with image.
There are a lot of great cars in the world that never make it to North America (e.g. Renault, British Ford). I wouldn't hold your breath. North America likes pick-up trucks, minivans and SUV's - and unless that changes any time soon you won't see any of these super-sports cars on our shores.
I have a close friend that works as a tech for a Mits dealer and at the last school he went to in Chi town he was told, by Mitsubushi, that the EVO was coming. They were presently working on a way to fit the intercooler on the USDM version because of front impact standards. He also said that they said the price would be close to 30k... but then again any company has the right to change their minds if the market changes. I wouldn't count on it coming until it shows up at the dealerships and I would never, say it wasn't going to be brought over.
Homer is right. Even with all the sports cars that will be coming soon (STi, Nissan Z, Skyline) Americans still like trucks and SUVs. The company with its head in its *** the most has to be GM though. What would happen if they brought those Holden Commodore SS over here? The domestic guys would snap them up in a heartbeat and be kicking Honda and BMW all over the road. Instead they give us the 200hp AT Catera. I just don't understand Detroit sometimes.

point: eventually it made it to our shores...
They already said it would not be coming in the current generation, but that the next gen IS being designed with the US market in mind.
Well said Boba. Maybe we should clarify that it is Kobe Tai we like, and not Kobe Bryant - otherwise those Turbo ******* will get confused.
Kobe? aka the girl with the Jason Vorhees boob job.
although I wouldnt kick her out of bed for eating crackers.
