I have a 2001 ITR. While at the expo on the way up and back, I noticed a loud sound coming from my transmission when i step on the clutch. I have had the sound before but a simple clutch fluid drain solved the problem. This time it seems to be louder. Black R and I concluded that it was a throw out bearing issue as you can pinpoint exactly where the sound comes from. From there i concluded i need to take it in to the dealer and have the bearing lubed up. Took my car to the dealer and found out that it could be two problems; one it is my throw out bearing they replace under warranty( i pay nothing)
, or two it is my clutch
and since it is a wear and tear item i will have to replace the clutch. If it is problem two dealer states that i would have to pay for the labor to take apart my clutch and assemble it. They said if that is the case i might as well get another clutch from them and put it in while it is disassembled. Totaled up will run me around 900 dollars
as the dealer states they charge $80dollars an hour for labor
. Does this sound right? Do i really have to pay for them to diagnose a problem if its not really the problem? Another thing is do you think they would install an aftermarket clutch for me such as the TODA clutch and flywheel? Thanks for your response.

80/labor is waste of money dude
about you getting after market flywheel/clutch...i dont see why not. i would find out who the guy doing your car and pay him like 50 bucks or so and have him put it in.
if you are opening tranny, i would put better flywheel and clutch at the same time, if not later you will have to pay again to have tranny out.
350 doesnt sound bad. if not have few friends to help you out and get your tranny fixed

80 does sound steep but the thing is i think i have some life on my clutch still and i wanted to wait a little. but if im going to replace the clutch i dont want it to open it up and see its my throwout bearing is broke since i have 47xxx miles on my odo my warranty will be up.
my dealer replaced clutch..and since they were totally sure if the throwout bearing was bad too.. they jsut replaced that for free.. depends on ur dealer and ur relationship with them
Too much $ from the dealer. We'll put in the clutch for you. Just give Ken & me a call or IM. Will take a whole weekend though, 'cuz we work slow & I hate dropping the tranny.

Hey thanks Sean. The problem at hand though is my throwout bearing. Should i just let the dealer take it apart and replace the bearing. and if it isnt just pay for the clutch?
That's a tough call. If you're low on $, just have the throwout bearing replaced.
If you got mad $, maybe this would be a good excuse to get something "better".

the thing is. i must be an idiot for not explaining this right.
if its not my throwout bearing that broke. the dealer is going to charge me money for taking apart the tranny. and they wont know if it is until the take apart the tranny.
so either way the dealer is taking the tranny apart. i guess my question would be do they have the right to charge me to check if something is broken? hope thats better. stupid me.

Hell no you shouldnt pay for them to diagnose it. They are the so called "Acura trained profesionals." It is there job to do a proper diagnoses. Either a clutch or a throwout bearing should not involve taking a transmission apart to diagnose.
