A JSPEC Question?
My friend said that if the first 2 letters of VIN# are JH, it means its a JSPEC. Is this true and if so what does it mean if is a JSPEC? Mine has JH instead of HJ. Thanks

The first three letters of any VIN is called the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI). The first position denotes where the vehicle was built. The second position denotes the manufacturer. The third position denotes the make of the vehicle.
In this case the first three letters of the VIN are JH4.
J = Japan
H = Honda Motor Company
4 = Acura
If it was a JDM Intergra the 3rd character of the VIN would not be a "4" since the Acura line does not exist in Japan. The third character of the VIN would be a "M". Therefore all JDM Intergra's should have a VIN beginning with the WMI "JHM" not "JH4".
J = Japan
H = Honda Motor Company
M = Honda
This is true in most cases but some manufacturers are not really adhering to this standard.
i.e BMW Z3's
The first three letters of the VIN are "WBA". The first character "W" is supposed to indicate that the vehicle is made in Germany. However, some of the vehicles are actually manufactured in Spartanburg South Carolina. The only way you can tell what country the car was actually made in is by looking at the plant code (11th character of the VIN).
So the next time you buy a German car and the dealer tells you it's made in Germany and they point to the "W" (first letter of the VIN) tell him/her that the "W" don't mean jack!
