Techedge Interface Question
This is a newbie question, so please don't flame. I've been reading up about Techedges and I've been trying to figure out how they work in terms of connections with the factory Honda ECU and the factory o2 provision on the header.
Does the Techedge wideband o2 sensor actually *replace* the factory 4 wire o2 sensor? If so, how does the new 5 wire o2 sensor interface with the stock Honda ECU connections in order for proper operation of engine AND interface with the Techedge wideband interface at the same time? If not, and if the Techedge interface runs separately from the stock Honda ECU, will you need to make a new provision on the header to install and run the wideband o2 sensor just for the Techedge?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm looked on the Techedge website, and it doesn't state how it's supposed to interface.
And one last question... If the wideband o2 sensor DOES replace the factory o2 sensor and DOES interface with the factory ECU some how...Does it allow the car to run better because the o2 readings are more accurate?

if you're running standalone, you can replace the stock O2 sensor and splice the wire off the wideband to the stock O2 wiring harness.
if you're still running stock ECU ( with FMU or AFC) you need to weld another bung for the wideband so that you can run the wideband indepedently...and run the stock ECU to the stock O2 sensor

Actually, according to Techedge's web site, v1.5 has a NarrowBand Simulator. So you would replace your stock 4wire w/ the 5wire and send the ecu a simulated NB signal. Check it out:

true/false? : using a wideband like a regular O2 (daily driven) all the time will end up killing it pretty quickly, and you should only use it when you need to tune?

AHA! That's a smart idea. Anybody here running a 1.5 with the narrow band sim? How long does a wideband o2 sensor last...on average?

Wideband O2's have a 100k mile lifespan, at least the ntk's do. I can find the site that proves it right now, but think about this: Why would honda put something in their production (civic vx) that has a short lifespan? Not good for the warranty. The only thing that would greatly reduce the lifespan of your sensor (any o2 sensor for that matter) is running leaded fuels or running extremely rich all the time.
