Fuse blowing!
Hey Im curious I have a problem my cluster isnt lite up my back tail lights doesnt light up. I checked for all grounded wires and all open wires crossing etc etc. When I turn the headlights on the fuse keeps on blowing. The fuse that keeps on blowing is the cluster light the tail light and the license plate lamp fuse. Can installing HIDS be a problem to this.? can some one please help Thanks
damn mahn i hope you get this fixed..i have the same problem except with my interior lights and ish...i found out it was my heater and everytime i turn it on it blows the fuse...first thing u should do is turn everyyy single accesorie off...headunit, interior lights, heater, and such...then put ina new fuse and start the car and turn on the lights...start turning things on...try to use every single fusable item...[open doors, windshield wipers on, step the brake...EVERYTHING! ] and once u see the light go out then you should know it was the last item u tried...hope this helps..i was quoted about 100 dollars to fix this problem from a electronical [is that even a werd!?!?] repair shop...HTH!!!!!!!
well my boy just purchased the car. The dude took out his aftermarket radio left the amp all loose with the wires hanging. i put back the stock spoiler with the LED light , stock taillights for my boy, took off the gay strobes, installed a kenwood HU and installed HIDS on his car. The kenwood works fine the strobes I took off and the HIDS work fine. But no matter what I did the fuse kept on blowing with was a 10A fuse for the cluster, tailights, and license plate lamp. mad lost yo..
O yeah the only time the fuse blows its when I turn on the headlights.

if it blows when u turn the head lights on its deffinetly the HIDS that are causing it to blow...try using a higher fuse rating...like a 30A if nto then something is deff. touching a ground...HTH!

definatly not. Do not ever use a fuse with a higher rating. You will literally cause fires. You are increasing the electiral load on the existing wires and systems that were designed to handle only a certain load and heat. It will melt wires and burn stuff up. First off, you dont know how well the HID's were installed. IF your good with it consider doing some rewiring or some trouble shooting. If not, unplug the HID system, put in some bulbs, and test it. You need to isolate the area thats causing the problem. IT sounds like its the lights but not positive.

Follow the wire with a DVOM and if you don't have one, wire a circuit breaker into your circuit, then follow the wires with a test light.
VERY BAD IDEA, but worked for me- I put a 30 amp fuse in and turned the lights on for 3 seconds at a time, each time I turned the lights off, I looked for smoke. Within 30 seconds, I found my bad ground which was my license plate screw was clamping down on a power wire.

well yeah Indeed I took off the HIDS and made sure it wasnt the HIDS. I have installed HIDS on plenty of cars and this hasnt been a problem at all. I never put a higher fuse because like you said it can cause a fire in the wire harness. As for the tail light that was another thing I messed with that day as well. Could that as well be a problem. For the HID's I disconnected it and turned on the lights and the fuse still blew
Only when I press the brake, the tail lights come on and also when I revs the rev light comes on. When he also bought the car he also took out the Head Unit with all the wires dangling but then yesterday I just hooked up a new HU and the hu works perfectly fine.

I just remembered you mentioning the CD player/radio was in a state of disrepair. This is a good place to start and probalby a good problem as well. Get in there, either tape stuff off, or install it correctly. Make sure there isn't still a remote turn on wire for an amp that was in a system of a previous owner. Also , this may be lame, but insure there are no power wires still hooked to anything. Get the stereo squared away first. As for the back up lighting system and the gauges being on the same circuit im not sure, however might share a common ground. Let me know what you come up with.
