Clutch Pedal Broke!!
My friend has a 1990 civic dx sedan that he uses to deliver pizzas. Today he was getting ready to go home and he pushed down on the clutch pedal and the whole pedal assembly broke off. One of the bolts that holds the assembly to the bracket actually sheared right off.
Does anyone have a Helms manual for this year of Civic that would be willing to scan a page that shows an exploded view of the clutch pedal assembly. I haven't tried to take the bracket out yet, but we are trying to figure out what broke so we can order the parts from the local dealer. I'd appreciate any help you guys can give us.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

This is the one for the del sol, but its the same thing.
Your probably gonna have to replace the hole bracket, which is a pain in the *** to do. Good luck

your going to have to replace the part labeled #28 in the above picture. its a pain in the *** for sure. take out the drivers side seat, get a light and some extentions, swivel bits, and be patient. when i replaced mine i traded off working on it with a couple friends because i would get all frustrated. i got it in after a while, but it was a little tough at times.
Also to add what glowing rotors posted there is one bolt that is up on the top and you will have to remove one of the heater tubes to get to it. Like he said takes a lot of time but it isnt that bad. If you can one of the more easy ways to go is to drop the steering column not necessary but makes life a lot easier.

Are you sure it's #28? That looks like the bracket for the brake pedal. We are going to go take a look at it in a minute. It was too dark to see anything last night, maybe we'll figure it out today. I'll let you guy know how it goes. Maybe even post some pictures. Thanks for the help
Mike
Here's a pic I found from hondautomotiveparts
You can see that every other pedal has a #21 bolt that holds the pedal on, but the clutch pedal doesn't

Here's the little bastard. #20
There's a bolt sticking out on the other side that the clutch pedal attaches to and it just broke right off. The bolt is actually welded to the bracket so we can't just go buy a bolt and pop it in there, we need a whole new bracket
Dude, I had to pull so much stuff out of his car it's not even funny. THe steering wheel, the main fuse box, several heater pipes/hoses, center console. There's so many bolts it's gonna be fun getting it back together!

Damn it......mikehonda and I replaced the clutch in my '90 wagon thinking it was the culprit! That was only part of it.
I was having trouble engaging first and second gears. As it turns out, mikehonda inspected the clutch pedal after I started the car and could not engage reverse. He noticed the clutch pedal arm veering off to the left and the bolt that holds the clutch was coming away from it's attachment. Also the bottom edge of the bracket was cracked and when the clutch is fully depressed you could observe the crack widening under the pressure.
What a terrible design!
Hopefully, I won't keep this car long enough to have it happen again.
Edit:Sorry for resurrecting this thread.

Oooh, that's a bitch!
Happened to me, too. That busted weld left my whole **** immobile for a few days. Had to take the part to a friendly neighborhood weld-meister after breaking down & having honda get the ******' bracket out.
I (and some friends) tried our best to no avail. Decided i needed the car on the road and bit the bullet in the interest of time and sanity.
I hated to do it, but it had to be done!
Just wanted to say best of luck, as i recall it being a PITA!

Yep, been there done that. Around November, my friend picked up a 91 hatch that needed a clutch pedal assembly. We removed the dash, dropped the steering column, and it was cake to get out. The dash isn't as hard as everyone thinks to remove. If you take your time and make sure you get everything out, it's easy.
