What the hell happened to my car?

So for the entire Expo, my car was running great. Shifting real nice, not burning oil, brakes doing fine (though by late Sunday they were getting soft), no problems whatsoever. I make the 5 hour drive home, still no problems. The brakes are now really feeling soft, so I decide to come back home on Tuesday and bleed them, and just take the GTI to school. I come home tonight, we bleed the brakes, everything is fine, then I'm backing out of the garage, reversing fine, push the clutch in to come to a stop, and the whole car kind of comes to a screeching halt without me touching the brakes. The shifter won't disengage from reverse for awhile, though finally does. Now whenever it reverses, it goes fine, but as soon as the clutch is disengaged, it feels like the whole drivetrain locks up or something, or like reverse and some other forward gear are selected at the same time. Now 2nd gear is also kind of grinding when I select it as well, so I'm wondering if the two are somehow tied together. I don't know what the hell happened, we didn't touch anything except the brakes, and before that it was perfect. Anyone have any ideas?

I'll check the clutch master cylinder, but why would it suddenly do that? I mean, it was like spontaneous failure. And no, Turtle, flat driveway. I'm not quite that stupid, heh heh.
