Default Oil Cooler line Size, -10an vs. -12an?

I have notice that everyone that installs an oil cooler around here seems to use -10 lines. Is there any downside to going to -12 lines? I do not know if people have selected the -10 for a reason, like it has the best compromise between flow and pressure loss or it was just easier to get parts. Any downside to using -12 instead?

I would like you know also.

I'm wanting to get an oil cooler, but don't want the dish out the $400 for the greddy kit.

I'm confused with all the fittings, hoses, ect that I will need. Does anyone know a DIY website for an oil cooler?

There are lots of nice oil cooler setups around. Here is one of the members on the boards website. Very nice write up. Although I will be going with a different filter setup.

Here is another nice write up, just for s civic.

Here is the filter I would recommend if you want to go all out:

Cantom Mecca is the **** they make awesome filters.

The one from Hybrid Garage is a pretty good one and is pretty cheap. It's about 250 bux.

The SportAuto.cc one is ******* rediculas! 650 bux!!! I would've just used a B&M oil/tranny cooler like they used in the HybridGarge one.

Personally I prefer a custom setup. I am not a huge fan of the B&M unit. I do not like the size of their cooler nor do I like the way it is mounted. If you want to save money and not have to worry about the abrasivness of SS lines there are other lines you can run, they do not have the Bling Bling of SS but work just as well. Or if you are worried about weight Earls or Aeroquip now makes light weight tubing. If you shop around you can put together a setup much cheaper than the kits.

I am still wondering about the pressure loss of running -12an lines. But currently that is the direction I am leaning. Unless someone has something to ad.

Hate to bring up such an old thread, but is there a downside to running the an 12 lines?
I would be using them on a d16y8 block (fairly weak oil pump from honda :-( )
I already have a lot of An-12 line so I would rather use that instead of buying some new an10 stuff.

ALSO, Is the 1/2" Canton/Moroso check valve decent? Does it have a lot of restriction?

Thanks.
