For those of you in the Northeast: cheap$ Solo 1 in Montreal area (not autocross, Solo 1)
We have a Solo 1 club in Quebec called LAPS. We are a non-profit organization and I'm the president. In case you don't know it, Solo 1 is quite different from Solo 2. It's more like a time trial. With our club, you get two 20-minute sessions of lapping in the morning (about 10-12 cars on the track at once) with passing allowed on the straightaway, and you get 2 or 3 timed sessions of 4-5 laps in the afternoon, your best session counting towards your final result.
The price for non-members is 100$CAD for the day, about 70$US (except for the Shannonville and WGI events which are not organized by our club), which is quite cheap. The tracks are small (like 1.2-1.5 miles) but challenging and fun. There will be two double-events this year (sat-sun) and 4 single events (sun). Three out of 4 tracks are within 45 minutes of Montreal, the fourth one (Ste-Croix) is 120 miles east (double event). We have St-John's ambulance volunteers on hand and we use flaggers. There are never more than 4 cars on the track at once in the timed sessions and there is no passing in these sessions. If you catch a fellow competitor, you slow down and we give you another run. All in all, the events are very safe.
We provide instructors for those with no experience. For "stock" and "superstock" classes, no rollover protection is required (4-point roll bar needed in "prepared" and "modified". The rulebook on the web site is in French, but I can tell you your class if you list all your mods. No experience necessary. Basically, it's fun for all skill levels, as you can learn alot as a newbie with an instructor or duke it out with our more experienced members for FTD. If you like HPDE but want to add a competition aspect to your day, these events are for you.
Our club is a member of ASN Canada and the FIA. Our website is http://www.laps.ca/index_an.html
If you have any questions, e-mail me, IM me or post them here.
