z10 vs. place racing vs. jimfab
need to know everyone's experience with all these different crossmembers. i love the way the jimfab looks, but i hate the fact that there is no contact info, and you have to get them through email. the z10's cost WAY too much. and i haven't heard anything about the place racing.
just need input on these before i commit to one of these.

The Place Racing one I heard was reinforced to prevent them from breaking like the old ones. Good clearence and they offer lifetime warranty...
I've had really good customer service with Jim so far at jimfab. He's been working closely with me to develop traction bars for my 2000 SI. Great customer service, great products. I'd recommend JimFab.
i saw a place racing bar the other day, and up until i saw it i was wanting one, but now im gonig to go with the jimfab, the bar doesnt look like it does anything for wheelhop it just replaces the factory bar, im looking for some traction bars.

Place= poor craftmanship
Jim fab = good price, better material, not as rigid as the z10 cause of less mounting points, not easily adjustable , less header down pipe clearance compare to z10.
z10= most rigid , most clearance , most easily adjustable, MOST expensive
i have a new z10 for sale if anyone is interested.

i decided to go with the z10. due to its reputation. shifts from 1st to 2nd are very interesting. No hop. No spin. just grabs. The car also turns better as well. honestly. I would not buy one if i had to do it again though. I just dont think you get 500+ dollars worth out of it. my $.02

Thanks TBONE for that summary. I was waiting a long time for someone to respond about the DOWNPIPE clearance. I had to NOTCH the heck out of my OEM crossmember to clear the JDM ITR 4 into 1 Header/downpipe.
Do you know for sure if the Z10 would clear it? The Z10 looks nice, but pricey.
I wish the JimFabs had more downpipe clearance.
I have not autocrossed or road raced with my NOTCHED OEM crossmember, (season ended
) but at the dragstrip and on the street it seems to be fine.

Assuming you're using hasport mounts
Shouldn't have any problems on clearance with any of these. More an issue with turbo downpipes. Even on my stock one I only had to hammer it out to get clearance for 4-1 (20lb sledge). You guys should ask FFGeoff which one to go with, lots of insight, since he works at Z... I mean full race.

Yeah the Place Racing unit isn't the same type as the JimFab or Z10. The Place is a stock replacement and the JimFab and Z10 are much different design and offer adjust ability, the Place doesn’t.
I got a Place Racing for cheap so I’m using it but I had to cut it up and weld it back together to make it work right. It fit very poorly to say the least.

if anyone is interested in Jimfab parts, feel free to contact us at Exospeed.
We stock the bars and we can answer most of your questions as well.

you could definitely weld the front mount on the jimfab bar.......... you could also email him, my bar came with a bolt-on front tab that he custom made for me. i am however using a zc and not a bseries motor......... they also come with the mount tabs pre-welded as well..........
Jims an awesome guy, great service, great product.......... i say go with the jimfab, i spent 240 bucks on mine during the group buy and im glad i did.

I went with jim-fabs because of two reasons
1..I dont like the Z10 aluminum radius arms as compared to jimfabs chromoly

when you read the thread D-Man posted you have to realize the z10 design is different from the 88-91 chassis to the 92 up chassis. Geoff has stated on more than one occasion that the design for the 88-91 cars uses proper suspension geometry and that the design for the later cars doesn't.
